Warner Bros. has released the first poster and trailer for the supernatural horror thriller Malignant directed by James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquaman). I’m not a big fan of supernatural horrors, and very often the trailer for such films makes it clear that there is nothing particularly creepy in them, but this time the trailer says just the opposite, creepy to the square.
Wan is not only credited with directing the film but also co-wrote the screenplay with Akel Cooper, based on a story they co-wrote with Ingrid Bisu. Executive producers include Eric McLeod, Judson Scott, Bisu, Peter Luo, Cheng Yang, Mandy Yu and Lei Han. The director of photography is Don Burgess who is a frequent associate of Wan.
The premise of the film seems very simple and frightening. Madison is almost paralyzed by constant horrific visions of murders, which become even more frightening when she discovers that they are real. Her torments are all the greater because the murders seem to be committed by her imaginary childhood friend.
Starring Annabelle Wallis, George Young (Containment), Maddie Hasson (Mr. Mercedes), Michole Briana White (Encino Man), Jacqueline McKenzie (Pine Gap), Jake Abel (Supernatural), Ingrid Bisu (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) and McKenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Home).
The malignant arrives in theaters and on the HBO Max platform as early as September 10th.
