Science fantasy is not often seen as a genre, but The Irregular at Magic High School does great in elevating the genre and combining it with a lot of adventure and a bit of romance. Based on the novel series by Tsutomu Satō, The Irregular at Magic High School has managed to unite a sold fandom, and although not a major title, it is quite popular, and fans are eagerly waiting for new episodes of the series. Ahead of the series’ third season, a new trailer has been released.

The first season of the series, consisting of 26 episodes in total, premiered on April 6, 2014, and ran until September 28. It took six years for the 13-episode to premiere on October 4, 2020, and after the series ended in late December, a special episode, “Reminiscence Arc”, was released on December 31, 2021. A third season has been announced and is set for an April 5, 2024 premiere.

The third season will adapt the Double Seven Arc of the novel series, and based on the trailer, we are in for a lot of excitement. You can check out the trailer for yourselves here on Anime Horizon:

Aside from the plot-related details and visuals, the trailer also revealed that the season would have three ending songs, which are “recall” by Kairi Yagi (“Double Seven Arc”), “Snow Noir” by Sangatsu no Phantasia (“Steeplechase Arc”), and “Shion no Hanataba wo” by ASCA (“‘Ancient City Insurrection Arc”). The opening song has already been revealed to be “Shouted Serenade” by LiSA.

In case you’re not fully familiar with the plot, here is a short official synopsis of the whole series:

The year is 2095. Magic has been tamed as another form of technology, and the practice of magic is now a rigorous discipline. Brother and sister Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba are just about to start their first year at the renowned First Magic High School of Japan. But the school’s ironclad rules mean that the brilliant Miyuki enters the prestigious Course 1, while her older brother, Tatsuya, is relegated to Course 2–and that’s just the beginning of their troubles!

A lot of excitement awaits us in April as the series finally makes its comeback. We don’t know how many episodes the series will have, but we know that the following cast and crew members are returning for the upcoming season:
