Scheduled for release this December 10th, ‘The Last Video Store’ offers a chilling thrill for fans of horror and nostalgic cinema alike.
Premiering earlier at Austin’s Fantastic Fest in 2023, the film taps into the fond memories of video rental stores and the hidden gems that once adorned their shelves.
Directed by Cody Kennedy and Tim Rutherford, who also co-wrote the script with Joshua Roach, the story unfolds around a young woman dealing with her father’s recent passing.
She discovers a collection of his old VHS tapes and decides to take them to Blaster Video, a classic video store managed by her father’s friend, Kevin. However, tucked among these tapes is a sinister video that unleashes an array of monsters upon the store.
This Blu-ray release, courtesy of Arrow Video, promises a treasure trove of special features. Film critics Matt Donato and Meagan Navarro offer their insights in a commentary track.
Additionally, fans can delve into ‘The Videonomicon Unleashed,’ a visual essay by Heather Wixson, and ‘Nostalgia Fuel’ by Martyn Pedlar.
The deluxe package also includes short films by Kennedy and Rutherford, clips from an uncompleted feature film, and a behind-the-scenes look at the making of ‘The Last Video Store.’
