‘The Rookie’: A Spinoff Is in the Works at ABC With Niecy Nash Starring

The Rookie is easily one of the most popular ABC shows averaging 9 million viewers. ABC is looking to expand on the universe of The Rookie by creating another show but this time it’s set in the FBI. The potential show will be introduced in a backdoor 2-episode pilot in the current season of The Rookie.

The show, if picked up to series will introduce another rookie in the fashion of the original show. In The Rookie, Nathan Fillion stars as officer John Nolan – the oldest rookie to ever walk the halls of the LAPD. In the same style, Nash will portray Simone Clark, who can be best described as a force of nature. She deferred her dreams for the sake of her two kids so that they pursue theirs.

Officer John Nolan and the LA division of the FBI enlist the help of an FBI officer in training – Clark when a former student of hers is suspected of terrorism following an explosion at a local power station. Existing in the same universe, there will be crossovers between the two shows.

Nash’s acting credits include one of the stars in Comedy Central’s Reno 9-1-1! HBO’s Getting On, an FBI agent in Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens, As Devi’s therapist in Netflix’s Never Have I Ever, and Ava Duverney’s When They See Us.

Nash just finished a four-season run on TNT’s Claws. The series aired its finale this past weekend. She was a lead in the cast of the show. Nash has earned three Emmy nominations, two for Getting On, the other one and a NAACP Image Award for When They See Us.

In reaction to the news, Nash said, “I’m so excited to guest star on The Rookie and bring Simone Clark to life! She is a spirited and spicy fish out of water. The cast is amazing and I can’t wait to play!”

On Twitter, here’s how she reacted.

The Rookie is created by Alexi Hawley who also serves as the showrunner.

Season 4 of The Rookie airs on Sundays at 10 pm on ABC.
