The Water Magician light novel series by Tadashi Kubō and Nokito is getting a TV anime adaptation. This exciting news comes from TO Books, revealing that the anime will premiere in July 2025 on TBS and other channels.

We can look forward to Ayumu Murase voicing Ryō, the story’s protagonist, while Kazuki Ura plays the adventurous swordsman Abel. Kaede Hondo joins the cast as Sera, an elf adventurer. Their character visuals have been shared on the anime’s website, giving us a glimpse of what’s to come.

The anime is directed by Hideyuki Satake, known for his work on episodes of Delicious in Dungeon and Deca-Dence. Jun Kumagai handles the series scripts, bringing his experience from titles like Aquarion Logos and Descending Stories. Character designs are crafted by Yūka Kozutsumi, while Bokutengō is credited for creating the manga adaptation based on the novels.

Kubō initially serialized the story online, and TO Books began publishing the novels in print from March 2021. The series has grown to 11 volumes, with the 12th set to release on January 15. Additionally, Bokutengō’s manga adaptation began in 2021, with a version aimed at younger readers also available under the TO Junior Bunko label.

The original novels, along with the manga adaptation, are available in English through J-Novel Club. The story follows Ryō, who is reborn in the magical world of Phi, where he faces unexpected dangers. Despite his plans for a peaceful life, Ryō’s optimistic nature and clever mind help him navigate the treacherous land filled with deadly monsters. Here is the official synopsis:

Ryo is delighted to be reincarnated into the fantastical world of Phi, where he thinks he’ll get to live a quiet life learning to use his newfound water magic. Going with the flow here, however, means something very different. Ryo is immediately pitted against the wild lands he winds up in and the slew of deadly monsters that call the remote subcontinent home.

You’d think he’d forget about taking it easy when he’s stuck fighting for his life, but lucky for Ryo, he’s naturally optimistic, clever, and blessed with the hidden “Eternal Youth” trait. Twenty years pass in the blink of an eye, and each encounter along the way pushes him one step closer to the pinnacle of human magic. Little does he realize that’s only the opening chapter of his tale. A fateful meeting soon thrusts Ryo to the forefront of history, forever changing the course of his life…

Thus begins the adventures of the strongest water magician the world has ever seen—who also likes to do things at his own pace!

Before we conclude, here are the visuals that have been released:

This anime adaptation promises to bring the thrilling adventures of the strongest water magician to life, blending action and magic in a world where Ryō’s journey is just beginning.
