Theory Suggests that Thor Saved Cap’s Life by Giving Him Mjolnir
Avengers: Endgame premiered a long time ago, but it is still considered to be one of the best and most influential comic book movies of all time. Endgame changed the game for Marvel and the MCU, ending an era and changing the state of the universe’s narrative going forward, and that “forward” had its good and bad moments.
But while this movie has been – more or less – analyzed completely, the fans still like going back to this superhero epic and discussing some interesting theories about certain scenes and relationships from the movie, which is what actually inspired this report, as we are going to discuss an important moment from the movie.
The moment we are talking about is the scene in which Captain America uses Thor’s weapons, namely Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, with the theory implying that Thor actually saved Cap’s life by taking the latter away from him and giving him the former to use.
The theory is actually related to the scene, as we have said, of the final fight against Thanos in which Captain America (Steve Rogers) confirms he is worthy of using Thor’s weapons, which is an epic and very important moment in the development of the story, especially in relation to some earlier MCU moments.
As you know, only those deemed worthy are able to wield these weapons, and being considered worthy is definitely a major moment for a character. In light of that, you will probably be happy to remember this scene:
But! You will also probably remember that at one point, Captain America managed to use Stormbreaker, to which Thor quickly reacted by taking it away from him, saying that he could have the little one. And while that seemed like a funny exchange between the two characters, a Fandomwire theory actually states that Thor actually saved Captain America’s life by doing this:
Apart from Mjolnir, Chris Evans‘ Cap also manages to use the Stormbreaker, but Thor is quick to take it away from him. As per one theory, it might be because even though Cap is worthy of using both weapons, he cannot use the Stormbreaker for long since it is so powerful that it can possibly make him descend into madness, as per what Thor tells the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Infinity War.

This is related to the scene in which Thor explains to Peter that not everyone can wield every weapon, which is why they don’t have the same weapons. Thor is one of the most powerful MCU characters, and he is able to use Stormbreaker, whereas Captain America would quickly succumb to the weapon’s power and descend into madness.
This is similar to how Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet and survived, whereas Tony Stark died from using it, so the theory is consistent with the MCU lore. Therefore, by taking Stormbreaker from him, Thos actually saved Cap’s life, and that is a great theory if you ask us.
