Ultron In Doctor Strange 2? What Is His Role?

The release of the newest Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness trailer raised a lot of questions that are set to be answered by the film. One such question was the appearance of robot sentries that seem to resemble Ultron, who we last saw back in the second Avengers movie. In that regard, does that mean that Ultron is going to be in Doctor Strange 2? And what is his role going to be?
As of this writing, there is yet to be any confirmation of Ultron returning in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. However, we can speculate that those Ultron robots are actually created by the Tony Stark of a different universe to act as the guards of the secretive Illuminati organization.
Given the fact that Multiverse Of Madness explores how different multiverses collide with one another, it shouldn’t be a surprise if we were to see another Tony Stark entering the picture as the creator of those Ultron robots. And this leads to the stronger possibility of the Illuminati entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which should open up a lot of other possibilities in the future.
How Is Ultron In Doctor Strange 2?
One of the things that were never kept a secret in the upcoming Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness movie was that there are going to be plenty of different characters in the film due to the fact that the plot will revolve around the multiverse. That’s why it shouldn’t be a surprise to see past and new characters appearing, considering that these are probably variants coming from different universes.
Of course, it still is surprising to know that there is a possibility that one of the biggest Marvel villains will be making an appearance in the movie. Last seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ultron is a character that helped change the course of the MCU due to the effects of his actions.
While Ultron was deleted due to the efforts of the Avengers, there is a chance that he may return in Doctor Strange 2, given that there was an indication in the trailer. So, is Ultron in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness?
As of this writing, there is no confirmation regarding the status of the character in the upcoming Doctor Strange 2 film. Of course, the reason why people believe that Ultron will be coming back is the fact that there were Ultron-like robots that were escorting Doctor Strange after he was apprehended for his crimes against reality. And it seems like he was brought to a tribunal that was going to hold a trial for him (more on that later).
However, it is worth noting that Ultron never created himself in the MCU because he was created by Tony Stark. That means that there is a possibility that Ultron himself did not exist in an alternate universe, but the robots that resemble Ultron were still created. This leads us to our next point.
Are Those Stark Bots Seen In The Trailer?
Now that we have said that there is no confirmation regarding the status of Ultron, the character and not the robot, in the upcoming Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness movie, does that mean that those robots are actually the creations of Tony Stark?
We are leaning towards the possibility that those Ultron robots are not Ultron per se but are what Ultron should’ve been if Tony Stark found a way to prevent the Ultron program from taking over the robots he created.
Remember that, in the events of Age of Ultron, Stark invented a legion of robots that would serve as the protectors of the planet because the Avengers weren’t always going to be around. He created the Ultron program to oversee the robots. However, Ultron became too advanced for his own good to the point that he gained his own consciousness and took over the robots.
In that regard, there is a possibility that the Ultron robots in the trailer are the same robots that Stark created but are from a different universe. This leads us to the possibility that the Ultron robots were escorting Doctor Strange to a room to be tried by a group called the Illuminati.
The reason why we believe that the Illuminati was the one behind the Ultron-like robots is the fact that Tony Stark was the one who started the Illuminati. And this theory is bolstered by the possibility that Patrick Stewart would be making an appearance in the film as Professor X, as his voice could be heard in one of the scenes in the trailer.
In that regard, there is a good chance that these Ultron-like robots were created by the Illuminati version of Tony Stark from another universe to serve the very same purpose for which they were created, and that is to safeguard the peace on the planet. Then again, we are not sure about whether or not Stark would be making an appearance in the film, considering that we do know that Robert Downey Jr. is all but done with his portrayal of the character.
But it still is also possible that these robots are indeed controlled by Ultron but a version of the program that never went rogue in the universe of the Tony Stark variant that created them. As such, we are hitting two birds with one stone in the sense that the robots are both Stark robots and are also Ultron robots, as Iron Man might have created an Ultron program that stayed true to its programming and never rebelled against its creator.
What Is Ultron’s Role In Doctor Strange 2?
If those robots are indeed Ultron robots that were created by Tony Stark, then we can make the assumption that the Illuminati use the robots as sentries or guards. That assumption comes from the fact that the robots were seen escorting Doctor Strange to the room where he was about to be tried by a tribunal we believe to be the Illuminati.
Of course, there is still a possibility that the evil version of Ultron will return in the MCU, given the fact that there are different Ultron variants in the multiverse. If you have seen What If…?, the main antagonist of the story is a variant of Ultron that managed to take over Vision’s body and was able to collect all of the different Infinity Stones to use them to enslave not only the universe but the entire multiverse. This proves that there are different versions of Ultron found in the multiverse.
While it might be a stretch to say that this What If…? version of Ultron is going to return to the MCU, it still is possible that there are other Ultron variants that can make an appearance in the movie, depending on how they are written into. But we are leaning towards the possibility that the robots in the movie are merely Ultron Stark bots that were created by the Illuminati Iron Man to serve as their guards and foot soldiers.
