Undead Unluck: Who Is Spoil & What Are His Powers?

Undead Unluck is a manga series written and illustrated by Yoshifumi Tozuka, which has been ongoing since January 20, 2020, and has now been collected in 18 volumes as of the time of writing. The story is a supernatural adventure filled with humor, so you can imagine the series will be filled with ridiculous powers and abilities, as well as various intriguing characters. One such character, a UMA, will be the topic of this article, as we are going to present the UMA Spoil to you. Spoil is a major villain in the series, and in this article, you will find out everything about the creature.

Spoil is a very powerful UMA and a dangerous villain

In the world of Undead Unluck, a specific group of creatures is known as the UMA. UMA is an abbreviation that means Unidentified Mysterious Animals, and these beings are otherworldly-looking creatures with strange designs. In actuality, UMAs are the embodiment of certain laws that have been imposed onto the entire planet. For instance, UMA Past reflects global history, UMA Clothes embodies apparel, etc.

This is how they are connected to Sun, the character; by his volition, these monsters take on the characteristics of particular ideas. Depending on what they represent, they can be classified as concept-based or phenomenological.

Every UMA has a range within which its powers are active, and everyone within that range will be subject to that UMA’s power. This symbolic feature is crucial in practice since each UMA has specific qualities tied to the phenomenon or idea it represents. Some of them are also capable of producing offspring and evolving, which is particularly important for the UMA we will talk about in this article – Spoil.

Spoil is a powerful Phenomenon-type UMA. It is known that, in one of the previous loops, he fought Victor, Juiz, Void, and Gina. That is all that is known about his past. As for the current loop, he arrives in the town of Longing, Nevada, and comments how the town is going to be ideal for his powers, and then proceeds to infect the people of Longing, turning them into zombies.

Andy, Fuuko, and Shen soon arrive in Longing, where they face Spoil’s zombies, but Spoil is nowhere to be found. When the immune Andy befriended a female zombie who took him to a church where they were supposed to get married, a fight breaks out as the zombie tells Andy to attack the other zombies and a statue inside the church. Why? Well, it turns out that the statue is part of Spoil’s face and that the attack triggered him to reveal himself, which began the fight.

Spoil soon realized that he could not defeat Andy because of his immunity, but his zombies also turned on him, so he had to fight several different opponents. After a zombie touched Fuuko, it exploded, and the heroes soon realized that the zombies could deal more damage to Spoil after touching Fuuko, so the UMA had to deal with a series of such attacks. Facing defeat, Spoil then sucked in the remaining zombies and activated Phase 2, becoming even more destructive than before.

They find a way to counter him, but the only way to defeat him is to get at his core, and in order to do that, they have to deactivate his Spoil ability. Shen suggests that they should send him to space, and after they do, they manage to successfully capture Spoil and incapacitate him.

Spoil’s powers cause things to rot and decay

Now that we have told you about Spoil’s story, we can continue with his powers and abilities. As we have said, all UMAs have specific powers and abilities that correspond to their names, and they can activate them within a certain radius, thus influencing everyone who is not immune or who cannot counter this ability with their own ability.

As for Spoil, it is an ability that does not reveal the content of a work of fiction to you, but rather an ability that spoils, i.e., causes rotting and decaying of a person or an object. As Spoil himself said, before he was born, there was no rotting in the world, and the people living in that world took their lives for granted, knowing that they would never rot away. But, ever since he came, people started living their lives as if each day could be the last, and he enjoyed the chaos he had created.

It is an exceptionally powerful ability, and aside from being able to destroy things, it could also turn people into zombies, although it seems that Spoil did not have any control over these zombies – they were just zombies, but not his minions. But, he could suck them all inside himself to actually enter Phase 2, which is a rare yet powerful evolution of an UMA’s power. All of this he did while he was fighting the heroes in Longing. His core is his weak spot, but he has a very powerful body that protects it.
