Untitled Guy Ritchie Action-Thriller Filming in Spain with Jake Gyllenhaal Starring
An untitled Guy Ritchie action thriller film is currently filming in Alicante, Spain with Oscar nominee Jake Gyllenhaal starring. Gyllenhaal is known for starring in acclaimed movies such as Brokeback Mountain, Velvet Buzzsaw, and Spider-Man: Far From Home.
In this movie, Gyllenhaal plays Sergeant John Kinley who is on his last tour in Afghanistan. He is teamed up with a local interpreter named Ahmed to survey the region. While on patrol, their unit is ambushed leaving Kinley and Ahmed as the only survivors. Ahmed takes a risk on his life to carry Kinley across miles of rough terrain to safety while hostile enemies are hot on their heels in pursuit.
When he goes back to the US, Kinley learns that a promise that was made to Ahmed was not kept when he was denied passage to America with his family. In an effort to repay the debt on his life that he owes his friend Ahmed, Kinley returns back to the warzone to get Ahmed and his family out before the local militias get their hands on them first.
Dar Salim (Warrior) portrays Ahmed, the interpreter. Also in the cast are Antony Starr (Banshee, The Boys), Emily Beecham (Into the Badlands, Cruella) Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games), and Jason Wong (The Gentleman).
The script for the film is co-written by Ivan Atkinson and Marn Davies. Ritchie will direct. Ritchie and Atkinson are producing alongside Josh Berger and STXfilm’s John Friedberg. Olga Filipuk and Samantha Waite are executive-producing.
Production will be handled by Spanish producer Fresco Films. They will be providing local production services in Alicante. Alicante is serving as the Afghanistan locations.
The film will be released under different banners depending on the geographical location. Amazon, via Prime Video, has the largest share of the distribution rights and will release in Europe, Australia, Canada, LATAM, and South Africa and post-theatrical release in the US. MGM has the traditional theatrical release window. Yandex, a Russian company will release in CIS territories via Kinopoisk. Other Indie distributors will distribute the film in Asia and The Middle East. Kino will release in Japan, Joy N Cinema in Korea, Moviecloud in Taiwan, and Phars in the Middle East.
