After many controversies surrounding the production of the upcoming Scream movie, tentatively titled Scream 7, the fans managed to calm themselves down when it was announced that some major stars would be returning to the movie, despite Jenna Ortega’s exit following Melissa Barrera’s controversial dismissal. Franchise legend Kevin Williamson confirmed his return as director, with Neve Campbell also confirming the return of Sydney Prescott. Courtney Cox was confirmed to be in talks for a return, while several other names are also rumored, but nothing has been confirmed on that front. Now, some early reports have surfaced that the film’s production is moving fast, with filming supposedly scheduled to begin in September 2024.

Several industry-focused Twitter profiles have confirmed this piece of information, and Neve Campbell is listed as the source, as the actress seemingly confirmed that the movie’s production will begin later this year.

Although the movie is going to be made, not much is known about it at this time. Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera were supposed to return, but after Barrera was fired over her support for Palestine in the ongoing conflict with Israel, Ortega also left and the project was suddenly falling apart; the fact that Neve Campbell had also had problems with the production did not help, but it was none other than Campbell who actually ended up saving the project with this Instagram post:

“Hi All. I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the ‘Scream‘ movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!! Well actually I could. While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct ‘Scream 7‘! This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing ‘Scream‘ fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson.”

This was posted on March 12, 2024, and after a period of uncertainty, the movie was finally back on track. Kevin Williamson soon confirmed his involvement, while Cox is currently in talks to return. There have also been rumors that Patrick Dempsey might return to the series as Mark Kincaid, but that hasn’t been confirmed yet. Other rumors include the return of Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin, Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, Josh Segarra as Danny Brackett, and Roger L. Jackson as the voice of Ghostface. All of this is unofficial at the moment, so we’ll have to wait for some news on that front.

This is all that we know at this moment, but with the project moving forward, we are sure to receive more updates soon, so be sure to keep following us for all the latest updates and information.
