Riot Games is working on bringing ‘Valorant’ to mobile devices, aiming to offer a unique experience for Android and iOS users. Announced in 2021 during the game’s first anniversary, the mobile version has faced development challenges but is progressing steadily.
Unlike a direct port from PC, ‘Valorant Mobile’ is being crafted as a standalone product. This approach requires creating new gameplay mechanics, optimizing graphics for mobile, and designing a user-friendly interface. Studio head Anna Donlon mentioned that this strategy has slowed development but is essential for delivering a quality mobile experience.
Leaked gameplay footage suggests that familiar maps, weapons, and agents from the PC version will be present in the mobile game. However, matches are expected to be shorter than the typical 30-45 minutes on PC, catering to mobile gaming habits. Notably, there will be no cross-platform play, as Riot focuses on a mobile-centric experience.
The mobile gaming market is highly profitable, with players often engaging more and spending more than PC gamers. By entering this space, Riot aims to meet the growing demand for high-quality mobile shooters, combining strategic gameplay with competitive elements.
As of now, ‘Valorant Mobile’ is expected to be released in late 2024, with beta testing already underway in China. This indicates that development is on track, and players can look forward to experiencing ‘Valorant’ on their mobile devices soon.
