It has recently been revealed that the infamous Kaido of the Four Emperors stems from the relatively unknown Vodka Kingdom. The Vodka Kingdom is a kingdom affiliated with the World Government that is located in the Grand Line. It debuted in Chapter 1049 of the manga and is best known as the homeland of Kaidou, one of the Four Emperors and one of the strongest One Piece characters ever. The role of the Vodka Kingdom is sure to grow in the following issues of the manga.

What is the Vodka Kingdom?
Nothing is known about the current state of Vodka, but about 46 years ago the kingdom was very poor. In order to pay the heavenly tribute, Vodka was forced to wage war against countries and plunder them. The kingdom attempted to obtain the right to attend the Levely, but it is unknown if they ever succeeded.
In the past, the kingdom was made up of low-rise stone buildings resembling fortresses and war towers, perhaps due to the warlike nature of the kingdom. These structures were cracked and in poor condition. It is unknown what the kingdom looks like today.
Population and inhabitants
The only known inhabitant of this kingdom is Kaidou, who served as a soldier at the age of thirteen. Since Kaidou is by far the most famous inhabitant of the Vodka Kingdom, we think it is opportune for us to tell you a bit about him, although his history with the kingdom itself is not that well-known; namely, until recently, we had no idea that the Vodka Kingdom was his homeland in the first place.
Kaidou of the Beasts, also known as the “Strongest Creature”, is the Governor-General of the Beasts Pirates and one of the Four Emperors who rule the seas of the New World. He was also an apprentice of the legendary Rocks Pirates during his youth. He was the third emperor to be mentioned and the last to make an appearance. Currently, he and his crew are occupying Wano Country.
The first known reference to him came from Monkey D. Garp in Water 7 and was directly mentioned by Gecko Moria shortly after he had Monkey D. Luffy’s shadow in his possession. His position as one of the Four Emperors was revealed after the Straw Hat Pirates defeated Moria. He is the main antagonist of the Wano Country arc and one of the main antagonists within the Four Emperors saga.
Kaidou was born fifty-nine years ago on the Grand Line. As a child, he resided in the Kingdom of Vodka, which invaded and looted other cities in order to afford to belong to the World Government and at 10 years old he was already considered the strongest soldier of it. Three years later, Kaidou began to question this system, and the king, not knowing what to do with it, decided to sell it to the Marines in exchange for the right to attend the next Levely.
However, Kaidou escaped from the battleship carrying him and immediately received a reward of 70,000,000 Berrys. Kaidou allowed himself to be captured numerous times afterward in order to eat the battleships’ food, easily escaping once he had his fill. Forty-four years ago, at the age of 15, Kaidou was in Hachinosu defeating numerous pirates in combat when he was suddenly invited by Edward Newgate to join the Rocks Pirates as an apprentice, under the command of Rocks D. Xebec, he would also meet Charlotte Linlin in the process.
Six years after he joined the gang, the Rocks Pirates were defeated and dissolved during a battle, in which Linlin gave Kaidou the Uo Uo Fruit: Seiryu model and he ate it. During his career as a pirate, he was defeated seven times and was captured eighteen times by the Marines and other Emperors, leading him to live as a criminal.
During those captures, Kaidou was sentenced to death forty times. However, no execution weapon was effective against him and he was responsible for sinking up to nine prison ships. It is unknown at what exact point in his youth these events took place. Sometime after the Rocks Pirates disbanded, Kaidou was captured by the World Government and used as a guinea pig in a laboratory on Punk Hazard. While fleeing the place he met a young man named Alber, who was also being used as a guinea pig.
After seeing him he proposed to join his crew and assured her that he would change the world. Later they escaped together leaving the facility on fire, after asking his name Kaidou named him King and chose him as his right hand. The two formed the Beasts Pirates, which would later settle in Wano Country. Kaidou was not recognized as one of the world’s greatest pirates until around the time that Gol D. Roger was executed. He, along with Shanks, Whitebeard, and Big Mom was recognized as one of the Four Emperors.
Twenty-eight years ago he had Yamato with an unknown woman. At some point after Yamato’s birth, Kaidou managed to get hold of a devil fruit, which according to himself cost him a lot, but to his annoyance; Yamato consumed it without knowing that it was a devil fruit, thus preventing him from fulfilling the initial plans he had for said fruit.
After this, Yamato tried to kill her father many times but due to the difference in strength, she was always defeated and beaten by Kaidou. After realizing that his daughter had the Haoshoku Haki, Kaidou considered her a great promise, however, he did not tolerate that Yamato called himself “Oden” and that he maintained the ideology of it, so he decided to lock her up with other samurai in a cave in Onigashima in order to “reflect” or, if not, to be killed by the samurai.
Kaidou came to Wano Country with his crew at least twenty-five years ago, where he seized the island’s road poneglyph, and began to increasingly rule the country’s politics with the support of Kurozumi Orochi. Twenty-five years ago Kaidou appeared at the Orochi palace transformed into a dragon when it was attacked by Kozuki Oden. Twenty-three years ago the gang formerly captained by Gecko Moria, the Gecko Pirates, arrived in Wano Country and clashed with the Beasts Pirates in Ringo. Kaidou completely destroyed Moria’s gang, traumatizing him.
Twenty years ago, when Kozuki Oden and the Nine Red Scabbards were determined to overthrow him, Kaidou was ahead of them waiting for them in Udon. He revealed to Oden that five years ago the supposed disadvantage he had was false and in reality, they were the ones who would have had everything to lose.
He later mocked Oden for his tendency to protect people, comparing him to Roger and Whitebeard. After that, Oden and his vassals charged at Kaidou’s army, thus beginning the battle. Kaidou attacks the samurai with his bolo breath, but he manages to resist it, and then Oden attacks him with his Togen Totsuka, wounding him in the abdomen and causing his notorious scar, causing him to fall to the ground, to the astonishment of his subordinates.
Before Oden could deliver the killing blow, Kurozumi Higurashi tricked him by posing as his son Momonosuke giving Kaidou time to recover and land a blow on Oden with his kanabo, leaving him severely injured. Despite taking advantage of this opportunity, Kaidou apparently did not find Higurashi’s ruse acceptable, so he had the old woman killed before Oden’s execution.
Upon Oden’s capture, Kaidou ordered that he and his followers be sentenced to death by boiling in oil, however, he gave in to Oden’s request saying that if they managed to survive an hour inside the cauldron, they would be spared. Eventually, Oden was able to survive the torture even with Orochi’s illicit rise in temperature. Kaidou was surprised by this fact and decided to execute him personally via a shot to the head, but not before apologizing to Oden for Higurashi’s meddling in her fight, also telling him that he had already killed her for such an affront.
History of the Vodka Kingdom
Not much is known about the Vodka Kingdom’s past, only that 49 years ago, a ten-year-old Kaidou was considered Vodka’s greatest soldier and fought in many battles on behalf of the kingdom. A total of 46 years ago, the kingdom attempted to gain the right to attend the Levely by enlisting Kaidou in the Marines. However, it is unknown if they received that right as Kaidou later escaped from the Marine ship.
