We Finally Know When ‘Pokémon Horizons’ Part 2 Is Coming to Netflix!

As most people will know, after following Ash for more than 20 years, the Pokémon franchise has, in 2023, finally decided to expand its universe and give us a new series with new protagonists, titled Pokémon Horizons: The Series. The series premiered on April 14, 2023 and is currently airing in Japan, while Netflix has the distribution rights for the series for the internatinoal market. As of the time of writing, 47 episodes have been released in Japan, while Netflix subscribers can watch the first 12 episodes as of the time of writing, but a second batch of episodes finally has a release date, which is set for May 10, 2024.

So far, Netflix has released only the first 12 episodes of the anime, which have been available on the streaming service since this spring, both in the subbed and dubbed version. Although we have not received an official confirmation, we assume that the batch released in May will contain the same amount of episodes.

It is unclear why Netflix is releasing this series in such a manner, but knowing the service’s usual release practice, this doesn’t really surprise us. The service doesn’t really have a routine when releasing ongoing series is concerned, so it doesn’t surprise us that there are some experiments here and there, and Pokémon Horizons: The Series is a great example of that.

But, we know that Netflix has recently broken off with its batch-release tradition with the release of new One Piece episodes, which are released on a weekly basis, so we could see this happen with other series in the future as well, and in our opinion, Pokémon Horizons: The Series is a great pick if Netflix wants to expand its weekly-release anime slate. But, this is something for the future, as we cannot predict the streaming service’s plans.

In case you want to know what this new Pokémon series is about, here is an official synopsis: “A new adventure is beginning within the wide world of Pokémon! Arriving at Indigo Academy, a girl named Liko receives her first partner Pokémon, Sprigatito. But she soon finds herself pursued by the Explorers, a mysterious group that’s determined to take the pendant necklace she wears. Liko isn’t on her own, though, as Friede, Captain Pikachu, and the other Rising Volt Tacklers offer her protection aboard their airship. Meanwhile, a boy named Roy dreams of becoming a Pokémon Trainer, unaware of the secret hiding within the Ancient Poké Ball he carries. As Liko, Roy, and the Rising Volt Tacklers set sail for new horizons, what kind of discoveries await?“

And this is all that we have for you at this moment. The second batch of episodes is coming in May and we’re quite excited to see the new Paldean adventures!
