What Is Going on with ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4?

'The Mandalorian & Grogu' Officially Gets 2026 Release Date!

The Star Wars universe is one of the largest fictional universes in existence. George Lucas’ original movie idea has since expanded and become a vast universe with thousands, if not millions, of stories. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian became a major addition to the lore which expanded the cinematic universe and the story of Star Wars. It became a major hit and – undoubtedly – the most acclaimed Star Wars work in the Disney era.

The series’ third season ended in such a way that a sequel was inevitable, and we know that Mando’s and Grogu’s story will be continued in the upcoming The Mandalorian & Grogu movie, which is currently set for a 2026 release date.

And while all of this is fine and dandy, the fans are wondering what is going to happen after the movie, i.e., what is the status of Season 4 of The Mandalorian? In this report, we analyze the possibilities of the fourth season being made.

Now, as stated, Lucasfilm is currently focused on The Mandalorian & Grogu, a movie that certainly seems promising, especially after recent news that sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver will be joining the movie. Of course, Lucasfilm wants to continue the series’ tradition and make the movie great, just like the series, which means that all the creative effort will be focused on the movie.

This explains why there has been no news about the series’ future, i.e., why no one is speaking about Season 4 of The Mandalorian. And while Season 3 did close an important chapter in the stories of both Din Djarin and Grogu, we doubt that the upcoming movie will serve as a proper conclusion of their story, as the movie is not being marketed as their final chapter. This means that Filoni and Favreau plan on making more content, which is in line with what Filoni said a while ago.

On top of that, we know that Season 4 has been written and that it was scheduled to start shooting last year, but was delayed, first because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, and then because Lucasfilm and Disney decided to prioritize the movie. And this is the main issue.

We have recently reported how an industry insider revealed a rumor that the fourth season of The Mandalorian has been scrapped, and that could very well be the case, depending on how well the movie does. Namely, it doesn’t make sense that Lucasfilm will just give up on the story as a whole, but they could prioritize cinematic sequels rather than additional seasons of the show.

So, the future of the series depends on how well the movie does. There will be more after the movie – Filoni has confirmed that he will be concluding the stories of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba-Fett, and Ahsoka in one epic movie – but whether it will be a fourth season or more movies depends on what Lucasfilm thinks will be the best for them after the movie’s cinematic run.
