What Is Valkyrie’s New Weapon in Thor: Love and Thunder? (& How She Got it)
Valkyrie, the badass battle maiden introduced during the events of Thor: Ragnarok, will make her return in the newest installment of the Thor movie franchise, as seen in the latest Thor: Love and Thunder trailer. Of course, her status as the new leader of New Asgard requires that she be given a kingly weapon that befits her status, as she now has a new weapon shown in the trailer. So, what is Valkyrie’s new weapon in Thor: Love and Thunder?
It looks like Valkyrie will be using Zeus’s thunderbolt in the trailer of Thor: Love and Thunder. This looks like a blade-like weapon that is shaped like a thunderbolt and is forged by Hephaestus. We don’t know how Valkyrie gets her hands on Zeus’s thunderbolt, but she appears to be wielding it in the trailer.
There is no certainty as to whether or not Valkyrie really is wielding Zeus’s thunderbolt and why she has it, but it’s going to be really interesting to see how Marvel Studios is going to tell a story behind it, especially with a god-killing villain like Gorr looming in the background. So, in that regard, let’s look at what we know about Valkyrie and her new weapon in Thor: Love and Thunder.
What Is The Name Of Valkyrie’s New Weapon In Thor: Love And Thunder?
One of the things that we know about Thor: Love and Thunder is that Valkyrie will be reprising her role. We all know that Thor gave her the leadership duty over New Asger at the end of Endgame as the god of thunder decided to go on a soul-searching journey together with the Guardians of the Galaxy. And we also know that Valkyrie will be stepping into a bigger role as King Valkyrie in Thor: Love and Thunder, considering that she is now the leader of the Asgardians.
“Yeah. I can tease that she’s definitely King of New Asgard when we find her,” Tessa Thompson said in aninterview.
While the new trailer of Thor: Love and Thunder doesn’t reveal the entire plot, we did see some interesting things regarding Valkyrie and her new role. Of course, due to her kingly status, she now wields a new weapon that gives meaning to the “Thunder” in Thor: Love and Thunder.
In the trailer, we saw Valkyrie wielding a weapon that we have seen another character wielding. Yes, we are talking about Zeus’s (Russell Crowe) thunderbolt. She was seen wielding this weapon while fighting Gorr, the God Butcher, in the trailer.
Of course, we don’t know for certain if Zeus’s thunderbolt does have a name, but we know for a fact that it is a blade-like weapon that is shaped like a thunderbolt and is forged by the Greek god named Hephaestus. As such, Valkyrie becomes even more powerful with this weapon in her hands as she was never powerful enough to stand up against gods, as seen from the fact that she couldn’t even fight Hela on par in Thor: Ragnarok.
How Did Valkyrie Get Her New Weapon?
We all know for a fact that this thunderbolt weapon is a property of Zeus and is wielded by the Greek god of thunder and the king of the Greek pantheon of gods. This weapon was specifically forged by Hephaestus for Zeus because it goes well with his godlike might and his ability to control thunder as well. So, if that’s the case, how did Valkyrie get Zeus’s thunderbolt?
Well, we should all remember that Thor: Love and Thunder features a new enemy in the form of Gorr, who is literally someone who kills gods as a personal vendetta when his family died as a result of poverty back on his home planet. Because he believes that the gods were too selfish to even help them with their problems, he made a vow to kill all gods in the universe using a black sword that has symbiote properties and is capable of improving his strength whenever Gorr kills gods.
Going back, the fact that Valkyrie is seen wielding Zeus’s thunderbolt instead of Zeus wielding it himself could point to the possibility that Gorr actually killed the leader of the Greek gods and quite possibly the entire Greek pantheon. Gorr’s shtick basically revolves around him killing all sorts of gods around the universe, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he found himself in the Greek pantheon and ended up killing Zeus.
Considering that Zeus could’ve been the one wielding the thunderbolt in the trailer instead of Valkyrie, it can be speculated that he died fighting Gorr and that Valkyrie used the weapon to try to fend off the God Butcher.
Of course, considering that Valkyrie herself is several levels weaker than Thor and does not have powers of her own, having her wield Zeus’s thunderbolt will give her a huge power-up. And it also gives more meaning to the “Thunder” in Love and Thunder, considering that all of the three main heroes fighting Gorr have weapons that have thunder-like properties.
How Strong Is Valkyrie’s Weapon In Thor: Love And Thunder?
At this point, we cannot say for sure how strong Zeus’s thunderbolt is and how it would perform in the hands of Valkyrie. But we do know that it is a mighty weapon in the hands of Zeus, who is the god of thunder in the Greek pantheon.
Like Thor, Zeus himself is capable of wielding thunder-like powers. In the comics, he uses thunderbolts that are forged by Hephaestus as he flings these thunderbolts to his enemies. And these thunderbolts don’t seem to be similar to the single thunderbolt weapon he is seen wielding in the Thor: Love and Thunder trailer.
It is possible that Zeus only uses one thunderbolt weapon in the upcoming Thor 4 movie and that he uses this to channel his godlike powers, just like how Thor’s weapons are used as a means for him to amplify and channel his control over thunder. But it is also possible that this thunderbolt is a powerful weapon in itself, regardless of who is wielding it, just like how Odin’s Gungnir was powerful enough that both Loki and Thor were capable of using its powers, even though they don’t possess the same kind of power that their father possessed.
So, if it is true that Zeus’s thunderbolt isn’t only a blade-like weapon that would allow him to channel his powers into it but is also a powerful weapon with thunder-like capabilities, Valkyrie could be the third member of a trio of godlike beings wielding godlike weapons with the power to control thunder.
Of course, regardless of what Zeus’s thunderbolt can do, we all know that it is a powerful weapon worthy of the king of the Greek gods. It is also an upgrade to the regular swords that Valkyrie has been using since Thor: Ragnarok, considering that she is in dire need of a power-up so that she can stand up against Gorr, who might even be more powerful than Hela. And if this weapon is actually that powerful, then Valkyrie might be able to fight Gorr on par.
