What’s Next For Din Djarin & Grogu In The Mandalorian Season 3?

Share:

The Book of Boba Fett is finally done, and Boba Fett has established himself as the uncontested lord in Mos Espa. Of course, we also saw the reunion of Din Djarin and Grogu as the duo were done with their short detour in Tatooine and were seen traveling the galaxy together once more as it should have always been. And now that their short adventure with Boba Fett is over, what’s next for Din Djarin and Grogu as we move forward to their return in The Mandalorian season 3?

It is possible that Din Djarin and Grogu will try to travel to Mandalore so that the Mandalorian can find a way to redeem himself after getting ousted from his sect. They might end up entangled with forces that might want to get hold of Grogu once more. But it appears that Mandalore is their destination.

A good part of the first two seasons of The Mandalorian was spent on Din Djarin keeping Grogu safe and finding the Jedi. However, he had already completed that mission and was able to reunite with his friend once more. As such, the possibility is that season 3 of The Mandalorian will truly be about the Mandalorian, as we might see the series focusing more on Din Djarin finding a way to redeem himself.

Where Are Din Djarin And Grogu Going After The Book Of Boba Fett?

The Book of Boba Fett had a satisfying ending that gave us a good character development arc on the part of Boba Fett, who was once a ruthless bounty hunter but is now a caring family man leading and taking care of his own gotra over at Mos Espa.

But while Boba Fett may have experienced an ending that could very well round up the entire series, let’s not forget about the other notable characters that made appearances in The Book of Boba Fett as well.

Din Djarin, the star of The Mandalorian, also had a central role to play in The Book of Boba Fett because there were two episodes that were essentially extensions of The Mandalorian series. Of course, we know for a fact that Djarin joined up with Boba Fett against the Pykes because he owed the former bounty hunter a favor for helping him save Grogu back in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

However, we also know that a familiar face made his way back to the Mandalorian’s life. Grogu, who was given a choice between the secluded and very rigid life of a Jedi or returning to the Mandalorian’s side, was seen landing on Tatooine in Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing piloted by R2-D2. The fact that he made an appearance in the finale of The Book of Boba Fett confirmed that he chose to be with Din Djarin, who became his best friend and a father figure.

Of course, we also saw how both Din Djarin and Grogu played a role in the victory over the Pykes but were absent when Fett met up with his gotra on the streets of Mos Espa. Instead, they were seen flying away from Tatooine in the Mandalorian’s new Naboo Starfighter, as Grogu was telling Djarin to take him on a joy ride through space. So, where are Din Djarin and Grogu headed to?

If you can recall, The Armorer ousted Din Djarin from the Mandalorian sect when she found out in episode 5 of The Book of Boba Fett that he had taken his helmet off, a mortal sin for any traditional Mandalorian. Djarin asked her how he could redeem himself, and she told him that he could only do so in the living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore.

However, Din Djarin knows for a fact that the mines no longer exist because of the Night of a Thousand Tears, which ultimately decimated the Mandalorian population over at Mandalore. But The Armorer offered him no alternative to redeem himself. This left Djarin wondering what he could do to atone for his mistakes, as he still believes in the creed that the Mandalorians live by.

What Is The Night Of A Thousand Tears Mentioned In The Book Of Boba Fett?

Din Djarin is every bit a Mandalorian as any Mandalorian can be, even though he was already what Paz Vizsla would call an apostate. As seen in the finale of The Book of Boba Fett, he stuck by Boba Fett when the former bounty hunter gave him a choice to leave because they were fighting a losing battle. Djarin told him that it was against the Mandalorian creed to leave Fett behind because he had already given him his word. And he didn’t have to follow the creed because he was no longer a Mandalorian.

In that regard, considering that Din Djarin lives and breathes by the Mandalorian creed, he and Grogu are probably going to Mandalore or whatever remains of the planet. It might be true that most of Mandalore had already been decimated by the Empire during the Rebellion, but there might be some clues that will allow Djarin to find a way to redeem himself so that he could once again proudly call himself a Mandalorian.

Of course, Grogu will be with him through the ride. But exactly how Grogu will fit into the narrative of Din Djarin finding a way to redeem himself remains to be seen. It might be possible that he has an even bigger role to play in the Mandalorian’s next adventure, as he isn’t just some traveling buddy for Djarin. But what we do know is that Mandalore is a likely destination for the duo, as everything else in season 3 will probably stem from there.

What Awaits Din Djarin & Grogu In The Mandalorian Season 3?

Considering that there is a good chance that Din Djarin and his little green friend are on their way to Mandalore, there are a lot of different possibilities regarding what awaits the duo in their next adventure in season 3 of The Mandalorian.

For one, we might see Din Djarin learning more about the Mandalorian lore that he didn’t learn from his time with his sect. Remember that Djarin lived and grew up in a Mandalorian sect that had rigid rules that they needed to follow. However, we also know that he had learned of the fact that there is more to being a Mandalorian than living by their strict code.

In season 3 of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin met Bo-Katan Kryze and what remained of her Mandalorian rebel group. And Djarin was surprised that Kryze, who was born and raised on Mandalore, was willing enough to remove her helmet and didn’t even care whether or not people saw her face.

Going to Mandalore might allow Din Djarin to once again cross paths with Bo-Katan Kryze and her group, as they are still in the middle of an unfinished business. Of course, visiting the ruined planet might allow him to get to know more about the other types of Mandalorians, who we got to see back in the events of Star Wars: Clone Wars and Rebels.

There is also the angle regarding the Darksaber, which is a weapon believed to be wielded by the person fated to unite all of Mandalore. Din Djarin rightfully possessing the ancient weapon could play a role in how the other Mandalorians see him and how he would choose between his life as a bounty hunter with Grogu or his destiny as the fated Mandalorian leader.

Then there is Grogu, who still isn’t out of the woods yet. Remember that Din Djarin didn’t kill Moff Gideon back in the events of season 2 of The Mandalorian because he wanted the New Republic to be the one to decide his fate. Moff Gideon and the other remnants of the Empire could play a role in making Grogu’s life miserable once again.

Will They Stay Together?

Grogu ultimately deciding the Mandalorian chainmail meant that he decided to stay with Din Djarin for the long haul instead of training to become a Jedi. We saw this reunion back in the finale of The Book of Boba Fett, as the duo shared a touching moment. Of course, let’s not forget about the fact that they decided to travel the galaxy once more. But does that mean that they will stay together?

Choosing to be with Djarin meant that it was too late for Grogu to go back to Luke to become a Jedi, and that decision forced the Jedi Master to go back to the drawing board in his hopes of rebuilding the temple. It wouldn’t be a good idea for the writers to swing back and forth with Grogu’s Jedi vs. Mandalorian angle at this stage in the narrative.

That means that if there was something that would separate Din Djarin and Grogu, it wouldn’t be Grogu changing his mind to become a Jedi. Instead, we are leaning towards the possibility of them staying together until some event forces them to separate.

It could be possible that the Imperial remnants would once again find a way to separate the duo, considering that Moff Gideon was intent on using Grogu for his experiments with the Force. This could be an angle that the writers could take in the third season of The Mandalorian.

However, we are leaning towards the events on Mandalore to be what can possibly separate Din Djarin and Grogu. Remember that Djarin is the wielder of the Darksaber and is destined to unite the houses of Mandalore under his leadership. This might force him into a situation wherein he has to choose between being the fated Mandalorian leader or being with Grogu. And, considering that loyalty has been one of the themes in the narrative of Din Djarin and Grogu, it is likely that something as big as this will ultimately test their loyalty to one another.
