Where Was Knock at the Cabin Filmed? Filming Locations Revealed
The year 2023 announced some exciting upcoming projects for fans to look forward to. On February 3rd, famous director M. Night Shyamalan comes back with another psychological thriller called Knock at the Cabin, featuring a great cast of actors and a really intriguing storyline. Since the movie will be released soon and seems to be set in the nature of the United States of America, we decided to find out exactly where Knock at the Cabin was filmed.
Knock at the Cabin was filmed in Tabernacle Township in Burlington County and Southampton, located in New Jersey. Burlington is part of the Philadephia suburbs, which confirms that Philly native M. Night Shyamalan came back close to his hometown to film his project, which he admits is one of the most important films in a very long time.
Knock at the Cabin seems really important for the notable director of the horror movie genre, and for that, we will present you with the premise and filming locations of this upcoming thriller. If you are interested, stay with us until the end.
What is Knock at the Cabin about?
M. Night Shyamalan is back with another psychological thriller that the fans are really excited about. The director also seems excited because he noted multiple times that Knock at the Cabin is one of the most important movies of his career.
Knock at the Cabin is an upcoming apocalyptic psychological thriller directed and written by Shyamalan. He collaborated with writers Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman and co-produced with Marc Bienstock and Ashwin Rajan.
The cast includes talented actors like Dave Bautista, Jonathan Groff, Ben Aldridge, Nikki Amuka-Bird, Kristen Cui, Abby Quinn, and Rupert Grint.
Knock at the Cabin follows the story of a family who went on vacation to a remote cabin. During their holiday, the family is “ambushed” by four strangers who demand the family’s sacrifice to prevent the world apocalypse. Due to the isolation, lack of resources, and no one to help them, the family must decide what they will do.
Knock at the Cabin’s plot was loosely based on the 2018 novel The Cabin at the End of the World, written by Paul G Tremblay, which will be his first work adapted to other media.
What’s also worth mentioning is Dave Bautista’s first serious starring role in one movie, and it seems that M. Night Shyamalan trusts the former MCU star with his project. We don’t doubt Bautista will do great. Rupert Grint is back with another special role after another psychological project, or in this case horror, a TV show called Servant, while Jonathan Groff continues his streak of psychological thrillers after the notable TV series, Mindhunter.
We already mentioned the importance of Knock at the Cabin for Shyamalan and his effort to make this film look amazing. According to his tweet in May of 2022, Shyamalan used old lenses to get the old-school thriller look.
Fans are speculating that the notable filmmaker will use some inspiration from his successful movie from 1999, The Sixth Sense. However, what we can expect from Shyamalan is the signature technique he uses in his films – plot twist. Shyamalan plot twists became part of popular culture, and no one can create a good twist as Shyamalan can.
Hopefully, we will see that in the upcoming film. Now, let’s find out where Knock at the Cabin was filmed.
Knock at the Cabin filming locations
There are two locations in the United States, M. Night Shyamalan used for filming Knock at the Cabin – Tabernacle Township in Burlington County, and Southhampton, located in New Jersey.
The trailer presents us with an area away from populated cities in New Jersey or ones like Philadelphia. The characters are seen walking around the American greenery and woods where the notorious cabin is located. There are scenes in the movie where one of the protagonists is visiting the church and other public buildings, one being recognized as Evergreen Dairy Bar in Southampton Township, New Jersey.
The “green locations” and cabin are most definitely filmed in Burlington County outside of the township, while other locations include the township itself, Tabernacle.
The locations, especially Tabernacle, are not known outside of that New Jersey area, but it seems that Shyamalan is most comfortable creating his projects near his hometown of Philadelphia. New Jersey Department of State confirmed that mentioned locations of Tabernacle and Southampton were the main filming locations for Knock at the Cabin.
Where to watch Knock at the Cabin?
Universal Pictures will release Knock at the Cabin in the United States to theaters on February 3rd, 2023. The rest of the world will have to wait for more announcements for screening abroad, and until then, we’ll speculate if Shyamalan’s Knock at the Cabin will live up to the hype or disappoint the viewers and critics.
The effort and passion around the project, especially from the writers and director, lean the movie to the first option, and we don’t doubt that Shyamalan will return as a true “king of psychological thrillers.”
