After a successful run with Ahsoka and a more than controversial run with The Acolyte, Star Wars is moving forward toward its next live-action project, Skeleton Crew. The show is scheduled to premiere on December 2, 2024, with the first two episodes, after which the series will continue to air on a weekly basis.
Lucasfilm and Disney are hoping that the series will be a success after the controversy with The Acolyte, although we have received various reports in the recent weeks and months, some of which are praising the show, while others are calling it yet another upcoming problem for the companies.
Be that as it may, the Goonies-inspired Star Wars pirate show will show us a new aspect of the New Republic, with Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood helping a group of children find their home again. The premise is promising, but while we’re waiting for more details about the plot, ware also wondering about the show’s main character.
Jude Law’s character is going to be at the center of the series, despite the fact that the children will be the focus. Much has been said about this mysterious character, but until recently, we knew only that he would be a Force-user.
Many speculated that he would end up being a Jedi, but that is unknown as of yet. Recently, his name was revealed to be Jod Na Nawood and while some fans hoped that the name would reveal a familiar character, it turned out that the name is original.
This doesn’t have to mean much, as it could be an alias because he is hiding his true identity, but regardless of the true meaning of the name, we can confirm that there are numerous theories surrounding the identity of Jod Na Nawood and in this report, we have decided to give you a summary of the most important ones.
The Jedi Theory
The most frequent theory out there is that Jod Na Nawood is actually a Jedi. The name itself doesn’t mean much, but it could be the alias of a well-known Jedi from the Old Republic era who went into hiding during the Empire.
Knowing the history of the Jedi under the Empire, this theory makes a lot of sense and it is natural that the fans are citing it this often. Many famous Jedi, including Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, went into hiding following the Jedi Purge and stayed there, refusing to use their powers.
This theory has an issue in the sense that the story is set in the New Republic, so one could argue that there is no reason for him to hide his true identity, but maybe he’s not hiding it at all and is just another survivor of Order 66, but one we had not heard of before.
Plus, the Jedi have been naturally suspicious after the Purge, so that could explain the alias as well.
The Sith theory
When things seem too good and too obvious to be true, then we’re possibly dealing with a trap. Jod Na Nawood could actually be a prime example, according to some theories. Some theories online suggest that the character could be a secret Sith apprentice.
Something that has been introduced in The Acolyte on a conceptual level, or even potentially a clone of Palpatine from Project Necromancer.
Both these theories could be true, as his story is still mostly unknown, but if we had to pick one, his being a clone of Palpatine seems more plausible than his being a secret Sith apprentice.
If the latter were true, it would open up a series of new questions about Palpatine and Kylo Ren, and we know how the franchise has been when it comes to extra questions.
The Rogue Jedi Theory
Rogue Jedi like Ahsoka Tano are followers of the Light Side of the force but they are formally unaligned with the Jedi Order; they are sometimes called Grey Jedi, but that term also signifies those Jedi who walk the line between the Light and Dark sides without crossing over to the latter.
Be that as it may, it could be possible that Jod Na Nawood is actually a Rogue Jedi who, at one point, parted with the Order.
The reasons for his departure could be numerous and we cannot guess them with so little information, but if that actually happened, it could explain why no one ever mentioned him in the previous stories.
The Force-user theory
This is actually a very interesting theory we found on ScreenRant, which connects Nawood and Obi-Wan Kenobi. According to this theory, Nawood could actually be Korkie Kryze, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine Kryze’s child. This is actually based on an older theory that Obi-Wan had a secret child while in hiding, a theory that has not yet been disproven by the current canon.
If this theory proves to be true, Nawood would not be a proper Jedi, but rather a Force-user with no formal training – it has already been confirmed that children of Force-users are known to inherit the ability – and another Mandalorian as well, which would be awesome going forward.
