Will Bloodsport Be in the Peacemaker TV Show?
The Peacemaker television series is finally debuting on January 13, 2022 and we’re quite excited to see how James Gunn’s spin-off series focusing on The Suicide Squad‘s Peacemaker is going to turn out. Now, while we’re waiting for the show’s debut, we are going to answer some related questions about the show and its characters, such as the one from this article. You’re going to find out whether Bloodsport, Peacemaker’s rival from the movie, is going to appear in the TV show or not.
As far as we know, there are no plans for Idris Elba’s Bloodsport to appear in the Peacemaker TV show. Gunn explained that the show is going to focus on Peacemaker as he is an interesting character that still has a lot to learn by himself, which means that the show is going to focus solely on the titular protagonist, and not the other characters from Gunn’s movie.
In the remainder of this article, we are going to elaborate further on the answer given above. You’re going to find out more relevant information about the Peacemaker TV series and its cast, while also getting an explanation why we don’t think that Bloodsport’s appearance in the series would be that beneficial for the series itself.
Is Bloodsport in the Peacemaker TV Show?
The Peacemaker spin-off TV series by James Gunn premiers on January 13, 2022 and by now, we have received a lot of information about the show’s plot, cast, and crew. It’s still not nearly as informative as we’d like it to be, but we know a lot.
Now, the complete cast of the TV series has not been revealed, but from what we know now – and that includes the whole main cast and several recurring roles – Bloodsport is not among the characters on the list. These are the characters that we know are going to appear:
- John Cena as Christopher Smith / Peacemaker: A merciless killer who believes in achieving peace at any cost.
- Steve Agee as John Economos: The warden of the Belle Reve penitentiary and an aide to Amanda Waller.
- Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
- Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith: Peacemaker’s father.
- Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt: An NSA agent who is an aide to Amanda Waller.
- Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase / Vigilante: A district attorney and crimefighter who can quickly heal from injuries.
- Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn
- Lochlyn Munro as Larry Fitzgibbon
- Annie Chang as Detective Sophie Song
- Christopher Heyerdahl as Captain Locke
- Elizabeth Ludlow as Keeya
- Rizwan Manji as Jamil
- Nhut Le as Judomaster
- Alison Araya as Amber: The wife of Evan.
- Lenny Jacobson as Evan: The husband of Amber.
As you can see from this list, Idris Elba’s Bloodsport from The Suicide Squad is not on the list, which makes sense; even if Gunn plans on including him in some capacity, he would make sure to keep it a surprise. But, from what we know about the show, its concept, and the driving idea behind it, Bloodsport won’t be making an appearance in the Peacemaker TV show.
Why we think that Bloodsport should not be in the Peacemaker TV show
Now, as we have stated, we’re of the opinion that Bloodsport is not going to appear in the Peacemaker television series. Neither the cast list nor any other revelations about the show even suggest that Bloodsport might appear. Peacemaker is a character-driven show and the focus of this show is its titular protagonist – Christopher Smith. So, what do we know about the show?
“At the end of The Suicide Squad, Bloodsport learns a lot. He’s a better person than he was at the beginning. A lot of the characters are much better than they were at the beginning, and Peacemaker has a lot to learn. It’s that ability to learn that for me makes him a little bit more likable. His blindspots in some places are pretty terrible, and in some places are him being ignorant. I think that’s an important distinction to make as well. He is open at the same time, sometimes.”
– James Gunn, THR
As you can see, Gunn had a very specific idea of what he wanted from his character and the show in general. The focus had to and has to be on the Peacemaker, or else, the show wouldn’t really have much sense. In the aftermath of The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker is hired to continue working for Waller, and the show will follow those adventures and exploits.
Now, seeing how Peacemaker is the one in focus here, adding well-established DCEU characters in secondary roles would go against the creative concept that Gunn had envisioned. This show seems to be a pretty intriguing character explanation and Gunn would be hypocritical were he to include other characters, as that would definitely remove the focus from Peacemaker.
Viewers would wait for new appearances, and the show would quickly stop being a bizarre character study and would be your “Hero of Week” show, where we’d simply wait for another character, previously known to us from DCEU’s movies, to appear, which would defeat the whole purpose of the series. Be that as it may, it would be interesting to see Bloodsport facing off with Peacemaker once more, but that wouldn’t really change the show’s whole concept.
Bloodsport is very unlikely to appear in the Peacemaker show, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Will Other Characters from The Suicide Squad Be in the Peacemaker TV Show?
Now, as we know from the cast list revealed above, some characters from Gunn’s The Suicide Squad are, indeed, going to appear in the TV show, but they’re just human characters intrinsically tied to Amanda Waller and her whole operation. Thus, Steve Agee will reprise his role as John Economos, just like Jennifer Holland, who is set to reappear as Emilia Harcourt.
This is what we know so far and we’ll just have to wait and see if things change during the course of the show; as for now, these two are the only ones set to reprise their roles from the original movie.
