Will Halbrand Survive in The Rings of Power? What Happened to Him?

Halbrand is one of the most enigmatic characters we’ve seen in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, as his past seems to be shrouded in mystery. Nevertheless, we do know that he was actually determined to get the Southlands back from the Orcs, despite the fact that he got severely injured during the eruption of Orodruin back in episode 6. We saw him in episode 7 lying in bed with wounds that none of the healers of the Southlands could mend. So, will Halbrand survive in The Rings of Power?

It is likely that Halbrand will indeed survive the events of The Rings of Power, especially until the end of the season. That’s because there are still a lot of things we don’t know about him, as the series will eventually reveal who he is and what his past was, especially if he is indeed Sauron.

The fact that Halbrand has been one of the prime suspects for Sauron is one of the reasons why he might live through his wounds during the events of season 1 of The Rings of Power. There are still a lot of things that we are yet to learn about this mysterious character, and his survival is important for us to know who he really is. That said, let’s look at what happened to Halbrand.

What Happened To Halbrand In The Rings Of Power?

Episode 7 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was one that allowed us to see a dark moment for the good guys. The last time we saw them was at the end of episode 6 when Waldreg activated a mechanism using the dark sword hilt. This mechanism allowed water to flow into Orodruin as the volcano erupted and decimated the entire Southlands.

The eruption basically turned the Southlands into Mordor, as it was now covered in ash and smoke, and allowed the Orcs to travel without having to worry about getting hurt by the sunlight. But this eruption also scattered the Númenoreans and the Southlanders, as they were trying to find a way to survive the eruption. And we began with the individual characters looking for survivors so that they could find shelter together.

Of course, Galadriel survived the eruption, and so did the other main characters like Queen Regent Míriel, Elendil, and Isildur. Galadriel found Theo, and the two became companions that tried to find a way to survive what had just happened and make their way to the Númenorean camp outside the Southlands. Meanwhile, the Southlanders were being guided by Elendil, as he saw a blinded Queen Regent Míriel.

There were a lot of things that happened to the individuals stated above, but it took a while for the episode to reveal what happened to our favorite enigmatic character. It was only near the final moments of the episode that we saw Halbrand. So, what happened to Halbrand in episode 7 of The Rings of Power?

When the episode finally revealed whether or not Halbrand had survived, it happened when Galadriel told Arondir that she needed to get to Lindon swiftly so that she could report her findings to High King Gil-galad. That was when Bronwyn was reminded of their own king as she brought Galadriel to Halbrand.

In that scene, Halbrand was visibly injured and was on a bed as there were bandages around him. It was clear that he must have gotten injured during the eruption. Bronwyn said that they found him while they were making their way to camp, but it was never really clear what happened to Halbrand. All we know is that he got injured during the aftermath of the Orodruin eruption, as this only adds to the mystique of the character, who we know is already as mysterious as any other character in the series.

It is possible that he indeed got injured while trying to escape the eruption of Orodruin. But there is also a chance that something else happened, and that’s why the showrunners decided to wound him off-screen. And this only adds fuel to the “Halbrand is Sauron” theories that you can easily see all over the internet.

Will Halbrand Survive In The Rings Of Power?

During the scene when Bronwyn brought Galadriel to Halbrand, she told the Elf that the wound has soured overnight. Bronwyn also said that she tried to treat him on the road but simply couldn’t do more about Halbrand’s condition at that point. In that regard, Galadriel said that he needed Elvish medicine.

While Halbrand was indeed weak and wounded, Bronwyn told Galadriel that he was still strong enough to travel. The healer quickly patched the would-be king of the Southlands up as he was placed on a saddle of a horse and was clearly still strong enough to ride by himself. Galadriel and Halbrand set off for Lindon as the Númenoreans and the Southlanders cheered him on so that he may live and heal up. So, will Halbrand survive in The Rings of Power?

At this point, there are still a lot of things that we don’t know about Halbrand, as much of his past is still shrouded in mystery. We basically don’t know anything about the character at this point in time, as the only thing we know is that he came from the Southlands and is the last of a long line of Southlander kings. He also said that Adar did something to him but failed to expound on that.

In that regard, because Halbrand’s entire character arc is still far from over, it is likely that he will survive his wounds after getting the right treatment and medicine from the Elves in Lindon. This will allow Halbrand to continue to live on so that we will be able to learn more about who he actually is and what happened to him in the past.

Of course, with the season finale set to finally reveal Sauron’s identity, this is where Halbrand’s survival becomes even more important. That’s because, as innocent as he may seem to be, he is one of the prime suspects in the secret identity of Sauron. As such, if Halbrand is indeed Sauron, then that means that he should survive his wounds.

And even if he isn’t Sauron and is actually who he says he is, there is still a good chance that he will survive his wounds because of the fact that, again, his entire character arc is still up in the air as we don’t know anything about his past. That means that he is going to live through the events of season 1 of The Rings of Power, regardless of whether or not he is indeed Sauron hiding in the form of a man.
