The release of the newest Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness had people buzzing around formulating different theories based on what they saw in the trailer. Of course, it isn’t too off to say that there will be certain characters appearing in the movie. One such character that some people believe will be making an appearance in the film is Loki. So, will Loki indeed be in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness?
We cannot confirm whether or not Loki will be in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness because nothing in the trailer suggests that possibility. However, we can still say that it is quite possible because of how the events of the Loki series can be connected to the entire multiversal mess.
It is interesting to note that all of the different events in the MCU movies and shows are interconnected in one way or another. While we do know that the Loki series happened in a setting that is outside the usual timeline, the events of the finale messed up the multiverse. As such, we are here to look at the possibilities of Loki appearing in Doctor Strange 2.
Why Do People Think Loki Will Be In Doctor Strange 2?
When trailers of upcoming movies come out, it is quite common for different people to come up with their own theories based on what they saw in the trailers. The same happened in relation to all of the Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness trailers because there were different scenes that allowed people to come up with their own theories.
One such theory that has become quite popular among different fans is the possibility of Loki making an appearance in the movie. Now, when we last saw Loki in the MCU films (not counting the shows), he escaped using the tesseract in the events of Endgame when the Avengers went back in time.
Meanwhile, in the Loki series, he found himself getting apprehended by the Time Variance Authority or the TVA, whose job is to make sure that the sacred timeline was kept in order. The sacred timeline they are talking about is the current MCU timeline. And because Loki’s presence could possibly cause the sacred timeline to form branches or different universes, he was apprehended by the TVA.
Now, in relation to the TVA, they use a special tool that allows them to open timedoors, which are portals to different periods in history. The purpose is to make sure that they apprehend any variants appearing in the timelines and then reset the entire timeline to its original state so that they get to preserve the sacred timeline.
The timedoor is the reason why people believe Loki could be making an appearance in Doctor Strange 2. As you can see in that picture above, the timedoor looks similar to the one in the background of Scarlett Witch in the first Multiverse Of Madness trailer.
However, this theory has been debunked by the latest trailer, which shows that the background was not a timedoor but is actually just a door of a burning building.
As such, the theory regarding Loki making an appearance via the TVA’s timedoor should be trashed.
Do We Have Proof Loki Will Be In The Multiverse Of Madness?
As of this moment, there aren’t any indications or proof that Loki will be appearing in Multiverse Of Madness. The latest trailer, which was released during the 2022 Super Bowl event, didn’t have any indications of Loki possibly making an appearance. There were no scenes that allowed people to come up with theories about the possibility of Loki returning to the MCU films.
Then again, as we will explain later, there is still a possibility of Loki making an appearance in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness. However, the theories that we are going to present don’t have solid proof, as they are grounded on speculations that allow us to connect the events of the Loki series and the possible plot of Doctor Strange 2.
How Could Loki Be In Doctor Strange 2?
We did mention that there is still a possibility of Loki making an appearance in Doctor Strange 2 not only because the directors and producers are yet to dismiss those rumors but because there are some connections between the events of the two stories.
Going back to what happened in the Loki series, Loki started working with the TVA to look for a Loki variant that was messing up the sacred timeline. It turned out that the variant was a female Loki named Sylvie, who was apprehended as a child but eventually escaped using a timedoor when she was caught by the TVA.
In the end, Loki and Sylvie manage to reach the big boss of the TVA named He Who Remains, who is said to be a variant of Kang the Conqueror. He was the one who established the TVA after he became the sole survivor of a battle between all of his variants. And the reason why he wanted to establish one sacred timeline is that he wanted to prevent a multiversal threat (quite possibly Kang the Conqueror) that would only appear when different timelines branch out from the sacred timeline.
Sylvie killed He Who He Remains because she wanted the freedom that the diverging timelines offered her. She didn’t want to be a slave to the sacred timeline because that would mean getting erased from existence. This caused one single timeline to form branching timelines, as the multiverse was born. And when Loki returned to the TVA, he found himself in an entirely different universe because none of the TVA agents recognized him.
That said, it is possible that Loki will make an appearance in Multiverse Of Madness in connection with the different universes that started appearing due to the effects of what happened in the Loki series. The new universe that Loki probably found himself in was the main universe of the MCU, and that means that he was back to where he belonged. And he could make an appearance in the movie because there are loose connections between Loki and Doctor Strange 2.
However, the fact that there is still a continuation story to the Loki series means that it might be too early for Loki to show up back in the main MCU timeline because he still has to deal with the fallout caused by Sylvie’s decision. As such, the current trajectory for him is to try to find a way to fix his mess or to reconcile with Sylvie.
But there is another theory that could possibly allow Loki to make an appearance in Multiverse Of Madness. The Loki series revealed a Loki variant called Kid Loki along with a lot of different Loki variants. This theory may be a stretch, but it may be possible that this is the Loki that will be making an appearance in Doctor Strange 2.
The reason why we chose Kid Loki out of all of the other Loki variants is the possibility of a Young Avengers movie or series happening. Marvel has been introducing newer and younger faces to the MCU, such as Kate Bishop, Miss Marvel, and America Chavez, who will be making her debut in Multiverse Of Madness. As such, it could be possible for Kid Loki to have a role in the Young Avengers storyline if Marvel does indeed allow him to make an appearance in Multiverse Of Madness or in some other Marvel movie or series.
Who Will Play Loki In Doctor Strange 2?
If Loki is returning as the adult Loki that we have been watching since the very first Thor movie, then Tom Hiddleston might be reprising his role as the God of Mischief. It is also quite possible that the Loki we will see is Sylvie, who is portrayed by Sophia Di Martino, as her appearance in the movie might allow the Loki series to connect with the main MCU timeline.
However, if we were to go with the Kid Loki theory, then Jack Veal might return to play the character and would continue to do so until his possible appearance in the Young Avengers storyline.
