Will The Eye Of Agamotto Be Back In Doctor Strange 2?

One of the staples of Doctor Strange’s outfit and arsenal of magical artifacts include the Eye of Agamotto. However, the last time we saw the Eye was back in Infinity War when it was used as the housing for the Time Stone, which was destroyed by Thanos back in Endgame. Since then, its status has been unknown. Considering that Doctor Strange will return in Multiverse Of Madness, does that mean that the Eye of Agamotto will also return?

In the trailers, the Eye of Agamotto itself made its return because Doctor Strange was seen wearing it in multiple scenes. However, only the Eye itself was seen, as there is no indication that the Time Stone will make its return as well. Why Doctor Strange is wearing the Eye is still unknown.

Using the Eye of Agamotto, Doctor Strange was powerful enough to keep an interdimensional being like Dormammu. Of course, back then, the Eye had the Time Stone in it. Considering that the MCU Time Stone had been destroyed, it becomes interesting how the Eye of Agamotto will play a role in the upcoming Doctor Strange 2 movie, and that’s something we’ll try to explore here.

Will We See The Eye Of Agamotto In The Multiverse Of Madness?

In the first Doctor Strange movie, we were introduced to the Eye of Agamotto, which eventually became one of Steven Strange’s staple tools because he mastered the art of using it. And he even used it against a powerful interdimensional being like Dormammu by putting him in an annoying loop that was inescapable.

Then, in Infinity War, we learned that the Eye of Agamotto houses the Time Stone, and that’s the very reason why Doctor Strange could manipulate time using it. However, he eventually gave the Time Stone to Thanos because, according to the millions of timelines he saw using the stone’s power, allowing the Titan to take possession of it was the only way they could win.

Because Strange was snapped out of existence, it is presumed that the Eye disappeared along with him. However, it could also be possible that the Eye of Agamotto was destroyed when Thanos crushed the fake Time Stone. But the Eye that he crushed could have also been a fake as well.

In Endgame, the Time Stone was destroyed by Thanos. Meanwhile, the Time Stone of the past was returned to its proper timeline at the end of the film. Since then, the status of the Eye of Agamotto has been up in the air. It wasn’t even shown in Spider-Man: No Way Home when Strange played a secondary role.

Considering that Doctor Strange will be returning to a starring role in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, one has to wonder whether or not we will see the Eye of Agamotto again. So, is the Eye of Agamotto going to return in Doctor Strange 2?

The trailers of Multiverse Of Madness confirm that the Eye of Agamotto will indeed return. In most of the scenes that included the MCU version of Strange, he was seen wearing the Eye of Agamotto, even though we all know that the Time Stone no longer exists. This means that the Eye that Thanos destroyed along with the fake Time Stone must have been a fake as well.

However, we don’t know how the Eye of Agamotto will play a role in the movie, as we only know of it as a housing unit for the Time Stone. We are yet to see what the Eye of Agamotto can do without the Time Stone, as it might also be a magical artifact with powers that can be useful in battle.

In the comics, the Eye of Agamotto has powers that can be used without the Time Stone. It has the ability to allow the user to see past events. The version of the Eye in the comics can also telepathically communicate with other people through the use of magic and not psionics. It could be possible that the Eye of Agamotto in the MCU has the same abilities, regardless of whether or not it is housing the Time Stone.

How Could The Eye Of Agamotto Return?

As mentioned, Doctor Strange is seen wearing the Eye of Agamotto in the Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness trailers. However, there is no confirmation about how the Eye of Agamotto returned and how it plays a role in the movie.

While most people think that the Eye of Agamotto was destroyed back when Thanos crushed a fake Time Stone in his hands, it is also quite possible that this was also a fake Eye. That means that Doctor Strange has been keeping the original Eye with him all along.

But because Strange has only been seen twice in supporting roles since he gave up the Time Stone in Infinity War and that he didn’t have the Eye of Agamotto with him, it was easy to conclude that it had been destroyed or is useless without the Time Stone.

Of course, we know for a fact that the Eye of Agamotto, for the longest time possible, has been used as a housing unit for the Time Stone. As such, throughout most of the MCU, the Eye of Agamotto has been synonymous with the Time Stone, considering that this pendant is yet to display any capabilities outside of what the Time Stone allowed it to do.

As such, we are leaning towards the possibility that Doctor Strange kept the Eye of Agamotto with him ever since the Time Stone was taken. And it will only be during the events of Multiverse Of Madness that he will display what the Eye of Agamotto is capable of, even without the Time Stone.

Of course, even if the Eye of Agamotto is totally useless and is just a pendant, it could still be possible that Strange might have placed a different magical artifact in the Eye so that he can use the artifact’s powers effectively, just like how he was proficient in using the Time Stone through the Eye.

Is The Time Stone Going To Return In The Multiverse Of Madness?

While it might be true that the Eye of Agamotto was, throughout its existence in the MCU, synonymous with the Time Stone, it could be possible that it could reunite with the stone during the events of Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness.

The trailers show a scene where Strange confronts a dark or evil version of himself that we believe is the Doctor Strange that we saw in one of the What If…? episodes. In that episode, Doctor Strange never lost the Time Stone to Thanos, as he used it to travel through time back and forth to try to save Christine Palmer. And even after the destruction of his universe, he still had the Time Stone with him.

Considering that we are talking about the multiverse in this movie, it might be possible that this darker version of Strange will be crossing over to the film. And because he still has the Time Stone with him inside the Eye of Agamotto, the MCU Doctor Strange could win the stone from him and reunite it with his own Eye of Agamotto.
