Yellowstone Season 5: Release Date, Trailer, Plot, Cast, and More
One of the more popular American drama series is Yellowstone, which tells the story of the conflicts that follow the owners of a large ranch that borders a national park and a Native reservation. Yellowstone has had four seasons, and the fourth season is still ongoing as of this writing. But what do we know about the possibility of a fifth season?
There is yet to be an official announcement of season 5 for Yellowstone. But season 5 is said to be in the works in terms of its plot. Meanwhile, it can also be inferred that all of the major cast members would be coming back for season 5.
Yellowstone has been such a huge hit in America that it would be a surprise if the showrunners and the studio did not decide to renew it for the fifth season. But while there are yet to be any official announcements regarding the status of season 5, what we know of is that it is all but confirmed that the show would be coming back for a fifth season and quite possibly beyond that.
Is Yellowstone Season 5 Announced?
Yellowstone has become a very popular American drama series thanks to how it explores different themes that are quite unique and have never been seen before in any kind of drama series. Of course, we can also thank a talented group of writers and a cast of actors that have done their part to deliver four amazing seasons of Yellowstone.
The series just recently premiered its fourth season, but people are already beginning to wonder whether or not the show will be renewed for a fifth season. So, has Yellowstone season 5 been announced?
As of this writing, there hasn’t been any news regarding the fifth season for Yellowstone. Paramount Network, the company behind the hit series, is yet to officially announce anything about season 5 for Yellowstone, even though the series has been getting good reviews and favorable ratings.
However, what we do know is that it is almost impossible for season 5 not to happen, given the fact that Yellowstone has become quite successful. Also, season 4 was one of the most anticipated seasons for an American drama series in recent years. Given the fact that the show is continuing to gain popularity, the showrunners and the production studio will only ruin the momentum by not renewing the series for a fifth season.
Also, in an interview with Cole Hauser, one of the cast members of Yellowstone, he hinted that season 5 is already in the works, but there is nothing that is set in stone. He said that the showrunners have been working on its plot, but there hasn’t been anything concrete regarding the status of the production.
“Showrunner and writer Taylor Sheridan is working on it right now,” Hauser said. “Season five is going to be wonderful. The way we ended season four—I can’t give too much away, but the way season four ends, I think the audience… will be happily surprised.”
Based on that, it is easy to say that, while season 5 has not been officially announced, it is going to happen not only because of how successful the show has been but also because of how the ending of season 4 is going to possibly hint at a continuation story for all of the characters involved in the plot of Yellowstone.
Yellowstone Season 5 Release Date
As mentioned, there is yet to be an official statement or announcement from Paramount Network regarding the status of Yellowstone season 5 or when it will be released. However, based on when the previous seasons were released, we might be able to infer when season 5 will be released.
Seasons 1 to 3 were all released at identical dates from 2018 to 2020, as they were all released during the third week of June. However, season 4 was released on the first week of November 2021, which marked the first time in the show’s history that it did not premiere in June. The delay in the filming and release of season 4 was due in large part to the COVID-19 restrictions in 2020.
From that pattern, it might be easy to say that season 5 might return in November of 2022. However, it is important to also look at when the latest season was filmed to make a good inference as to when season 5 might get released.
The principal filming of season 4 was concluded in November of 2020, which is one year before the release of the fourth season. Of course, there had to be scenes that needed to be re-shot after that, but the fact is that the filming of the fourth season was primarily finished a year ahead of the projected release date.
However, as of this writing, season 5 of Yellowstone has not yet been confirmed. There hasn’t even been any news regarding the filming of the fifth season because of the fact that Paramount is yet to make an announcement that they are going to renew season 5.
This could mean that we might have to wait until 2023 for the fifth season to be released unless the entire production crew plans to rush the filming process the moment season 5 is confirmed.
But be prepared for the possibility that we might not see Yellowstone returning in 2022. It might become a similar situation with Game of Thrones, which had a two-year wait for its eighth and final season.
Yellowstone Season 5 Trailer
As of this writing, we don’t have a trailer for Yellowstone season 5, given the fact that there hasn’t been any confirmation that season 5 will indeed happen.
But, based on what Cole Hauser said in an interview, there is a chance that the season 5 trailer will air some time shortly after season 4. After all, Hauser remarked that the ending of season 4 is going to surprise plenty of viewers. That could mean that airing the season 5 trailer before the conclusion of season 4 would not make any sense.
Since season 4 is expected to continue until the first month of 2022, we may be able to expect the season 5 trailer sometime after that. It could be a few weeks after the season 5 confirmation or some time after the production crew has started filming the scenes of the fifth season.
You should also know that there is a possibility that season 5 might not come anytime soon because of how busy the creator is. Taylor Sheridan worked on two more shows about the entire Yellowstone universe. The first is the prequel show, 1883, which traces the roots of the show’s= Dutton family. Meanwhile, the working title for the spin-off is 6666, which is related to the modern-day period of the Yellowstone series.
Yellowstone Season 5 Plot
It is too early in the day to guess what season 5’s plot will be considering that, as of this writing, we haven’t even scratched the surface of season 4’s plot. There might be more surprises and twists along the way during the progression of the fourth season. As such, it would be completely premature to make an assumption of what season 5’s plot will be.

But, based on what Cole Hauser said, it is easy to infer that the plot of season 5 will most certainly stem from the “happy surprise” that the ending of season 4 has in store for us. This means that we have to wait until the end of season 4 to be able to make a smart guess regarding what will happen in season 5 if ever it does become a reality.
Yellowstone Season 5 Cast
As of now, there is no confirmation as to who will be coming back in season 5, given that Yellowstone is not shy about killing off some of the major characters on screen. This could mean that there might be a few characters that might die in season 4 and will not return in the next season unless they will return in season 5 for a flashback.
However, Cole said that “For us as actors, and I think I can speak for everybody… we come together. This is now going into our fifth year.”
This could mean that everyone who was working in season 4 could possibly return in one way or another in the fifth season, given that Hauser said that everybody would come together to work on their fifth year as a team.
Then again, there is no confirmation regarding the cast. The show might kill off another major character and then introduce new important characters. It is best to see what season 4 has in store for us.
Will There Be a Season 6 of Yellowstone?
Considering that season 5 is yet to be confirmed and that Cole Hauser said that the cast will all be working together in what is going to be their fifth year, it is tough to say that season 6 will happen. It all depends on the progression of the story and how season 4 will end. There is honestly a possibility that season 5 might be the end of the entire series.
