Zendaya on the Romance Scenes from ‘Challengers’: “I loved it.”

Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming sports drama Challengers is seemingly going to be one of the hottest movies this spring, based on all the reports we have made about the movie so far. This sports drama is going to see Zendaya star in a love triangle with her current and former lover. Although tennis will seemingly be the main focus of the movie, the sexual tensions between the characters will be equally important, as it is common for all of Guadagnino’s movies.

The main actors have been talking about the movie as part of its promotion, and one of the most often discussed scenes was the threesome scene between Zendaya and her male co-stars. Josh O’Connor has already given us his impressions of the scene, as we have reported, and now, we have Zendaya’s thoughts on the scene and its execution, which we are going to reveal to you here.

The Mirror reports that Zendaya was quite satisfied with how the whole scene was shot, and the actress openly expressed her thoughts about the positive experience she had while filming:

Tashi is extremely driven. She’s a go-getter and she is totally ruthless. The intimate scenes were so good – I loved it. I felt very lucky to be partnered with those guys. And whatever the moment, it always felt like they always had my back and I had theirs. We were so lucky to have a director in Luca Guadagnino who really encouraged us all to collaborate and to bring our own ideas. It was a really exciting creative process.

This shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone, as Guadagnino has experience with such scenes and he obviously knows how to draw out the best from his actors in such scenes, which is why all those involved are generally satisfied.

But, while Zendaya was happy with this particular scene, there was one aspect of the filming that she did not like, which was related to the sports aspect of her role. This is what she said:

How did I meet the physical challenges of the role? With great difficulty. I am not one of these people who love to work out. But Tashi is supposed to be a top athlete, so there was no getting around it. hankfully, I had an amazing group of people who helped and I learned a lot – about air tennis especially and how to look like I know what I’m doing. We trained for something like six weeks, which was pretty tough. Hopefully, we did a good job and people won’t be too upset. But I’m not about to give up the day job, that’s for sure! Playing tennis was definitely the most challenging part of making Challengers.
