We now find out that Crunchyroll is teaming up with Zoe Saldana to work on a new anime called “Dark Star Squadron.”

According to Crunchyroll, the show in development is called “Dark Star Squadron” and it will be a Crunchyroll exclusive.

Dark Star Squadron is described as a space opera and it follows four delinquent cadets who sneak out on a joyride one evening after stealing an academy ship. But when they return back to their home planet, the team will find their academy in ruins with everyone gone. In order to discover what happened, the four must embark on a mission that will test their mischievous ways.

Zoe Saldana will produce the show with her sisters Cisely and Mariel. Todd Ludy will join them in making the script, and fans probably remember him the best from the animated mecha series, “Voltron: Legendary Defender.” Sonia A. Gambaro and Maytal Gilboa from Pollinate Entertainment are also producing.

”As true animation and anime fans ourselves, we are so excited for the opportunity to partner with Crunchyroll to bring ‘Dark Star Squadron’ to a wide audience,” the Saldana sisters shared in a new statement. “We can’t wait for everyone to meet the crew and follow the journey of our unlikely heroes.”

“Dark Star Squadron” really sounds interesting and we can’t wait to find out when will it be released on Crunchyroll.

Crunchyroll offers over 1,000 anime shows, more than 200 East Asian dramas to users, and around 80 manga titles as Crunchyroll Manga, although not all programming is available worldwide due to licensing restrictions. Crunchyroll passed one million paid subscribers in February 2017, and has over 5 million paid subscribers as of 2021. Crunchyroll also selects some anime titles for release on home video through its distribution partners (Funimation, Sentai Filmworks, Viz Media, & Discotek Media in North America, Anime Limited in the United Kingdom).
