Anime brings us heroes, villains, and sidekicks who light up our screens with epic battles and heartfelt moments. But not every character wins our hearts—some just get under our skin. Whether it’s their constant whining, selfish antics, or downright cruel actions, these characters make us grit our teeth every time they appear. We’ve put together a list of the 15 most annoying anime characters, ranked based on how much they frustrate us, drawing from a mix of iconic shows and infamous moments.

From cowardly complainers to manipulative troublemakers, these characters test our patience in unique ways. Some are hated for their actions, others for their voices or attitudes, but all of them leave us wishing they’d get less screen time. Let’s dive into the list, counting down from the least to the most irritating, and explore why these characters drive us up the wall.

15. Yuji – ‘My Isekai Life’

Revoroot

Yuji is the blandest hero you’ll ever meet in an isekai adventure. As a generic self-insert, he lacks any spark or personality, making his journey feel like a chore to watch.

His dullness is so extreme it almost feels like a critique of the isekai genre itself. We’re left wondering why we should care about a character who doesn’t seem to care about anything himself.

14. Ribrianne – ‘Dragon Ball Super’ (2015-2018)

Toei Animation

Ribrianne’s obsession with love as her ultimate power in the Tournament of Power grates on our nerves. Her over-the-top preaching and constant bragging make her scenes hard to endure.

She’s meant to be a quirky fighter, but her one-note personality and loud declarations overshadow any charm. We cheer when she finally gets knocked out of the ring.

13. Lucy Heartfilia – ‘Fairy Tail’ (2009-2019)

A-1 Pictures

Lucy’s potential as a celestial wizard is undeniable, but her constant whining and reliance on others drag her down. She rarely uses her magic effectively, leaving us frustrated.

Despite her growth, she often feels like a damsel in distress, waiting for Natsu to save the day. Her presence sometimes feels more about looks than substance.

12. Kon – ‘Bleach’ (2004-present)

Studio Pierrot

Kon, the soul candy stuffed animal, starts off with promise but quickly becomes a grating comic relief. His high-pitched voice and overdone antics wear thin fast.

Instead of adding depth, he’s reduced to predictable gags, making us wish he’d stay out of serious moments. His early charm fades into pure annoyance.

11. Hikari – ‘Nagi no Asukara’ (2013-2014)

P.A. Works

Hikari’s tsundere attitude crosses into plain obnoxiousness, especially early on. His selfish behavior and loud outbursts make him hard to root for.

Even as he softens, his initial arrogance leaves a bad taste, pushing us to prefer other characters. His growth doesn’t fully erase his grating start.

10. Bel Daizora – ‘Beyblade Burst QuadDrive’ (2021-2022)

OLM Team Abe

Bel’s demon lord roleplay as a kid blader is a fun idea that falls flat. His smug attitude and refusal to lose gracefully make him insufferable.

He bulldozes fan-favorite characters and disrupts epic moments, leaving us annoyed. The cast’s affection for him only makes his antics more frustrating.

9. Mami – ‘Rent-a-Girlfriend’ (2020-present)

TMS Entertainment

Mami seems sweet at first, but her jealous scheming against Kazuya’s new relationship reveals her true colors. Her manipulative flirting is pure chaos.

She doesn’t just move on—she actively tries to ruin Kazuya’s happiness. Her petty actions make us wish she’d stay out of the story.

8. Uzaki Hana – ‘Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!’ (2020-2022)

ENGI

Uzaki’s teasing of Shinichi is meant to be playful, but it often feels mean-spirited and relentless. Her loud, in-your-face energy can be exhausting.

While she has no real malice, her overbearing antics don’t land as charming for most of us. We’re left craving some peace and quiet, like Shinichi.

7. Minoru Mineta – ‘My Hero Academia’ (2016-present)

Bones

Mineta’s perverse behavior and cowardice in battle make him the least likable student in Class 1-A. His creepy antics overshadow any rare moments of cleverness.

His design as a satirical pervert falls flat, leaving us wishing he’d be replaced. The show would feel stronger without his tiresome gags.

6. Kagome Higurashi – ‘Inuyasha’ (2000-2010)

Sunrise

Kagome’s whining and jealousy over Inuyasha’s past with Kikyo make her tough to like. Her entitlement and frequent tantrums overshadow her strengths.

The narrative paints her as perfect, but her selfish moments and uselessness in fights frustrate us. A more balanced portrayal would help her case.

5. Hayase Nagatoro – ‘Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro’ (2021-present)

Telecom Animation Film

Hayase’s bullying of her shy senpai feels cruel rather than endearing, especially early on. Her relentless teasing crosses lines that are hard to forgive.

Even as she shows a softer side, her initial harshness lingers, making her a divisive character. We often side with her senpai’s quiet suffering.

4. Mello – ‘Death Note’ (2006-2007)

Madhouse

Mello’s chocolate-munching and lack of strategy make him a poor successor in the high-stakes world of Death Note. His annoying habits and weak plans frustrate us.

Compared to the brilliance of Light or L, Mello feels like a letdown. His presence cheapens the tension of the story’s climax.

3. Sakura Haruno – ‘Naruto’ (2002-2007) and ‘Naruto: Shippuden’ (2007-2017)

Studio Pierrot

Sakura starts as a weak link in Team Seven, obsessing over Sasuke while contributing little to battles. Her early uselessness and whining are hard to ignore.

Even as she grows stronger, her rocky start and occasional selfishness keep her high on our annoyance list. She never fully shakes her bad first impression.

2. Zenitsu Agatsuma – ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba’ (2019-present)

ufotable

Zenitsu’s constant screaming and cowardice make him unbearable, despite his powerful Lightning Breathing when asleep. His anxious rants and pervy comments test our patience.

He has moments of growth, but his loud, fearful nature overshadows them. We often wish he’d stay unconscious to spare us his noise.

1. Shou Tucker – ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’ (2003-2004) and ‘Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood’ (2009-2010)

Bones

Shou Tucker’s monstrous act of turning his daughter Nina and their dog into a chimera is unforgivable. His cold ambition makes him the ultimate villain in our eyes.

His lack of remorse and willingness to sacrifice his family for a license cement him as the most despised. Every scene with him leaves us fuming.
