2025’s Hit Horror With 90% Rotten Tomatoes Score Gets a Glowing Review From Stephen King
The 2025 horror film Together has been getting a lot of attention, especially from the legendary author Stephen King. Directed and written by Michael Shanks in his first time directing, Together stars real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie.
The movie tells the story of a couple who move to the countryside and soon face a strange force that causes terrifying changes to their bodies.
Together first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on January 26, 2025, and later hit theaters in the United States on July 30, thanks to Neon, and in Australia on July 31 through Kismet Movies. Critics have responded positively to the film, and it has made $12.2 million worldwide, which is close to its $17 million budget.
The plot follows Millie Wilson, who starts a job teaching English at an elementary school, and her boyfriend Tim, an aspiring musician struggling with emotional distance after his parents passed away. Millie proposes to Tim before they move, but he hesitates, leaving things awkward. While hiking near their new home, they end up stuck in a cave during a rainstorm.
Tim drinks from a mysterious pool in the cave and remembers a disturbing event from his childhood involving his mother and father. The next morning, they notice their legs are partially stuck together. Although they separate, strange things keep happening. Tim feels physically drawn to Millie in ways that confuse both of them. They talk about their experience with Millie’s coworker Jamie, who tells them the cave was once a New Age church before it collapsed.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Together has a 90% approval rating from 169 critics. The site’s summary says, “Given an extra sinew of authenticity by the metatextual casting of Alison Brie and Dave Franco at the top of their game, Together is a body horror that’s as emotionally sticky as it is memorably gnarly.” Metacritic gives the film a score of 75 out of 100, which means it got generally favorable reviews. However, audiences have been a bit more mixed, with a C+ grade from CinemaScore.
Stephen King took to Threads to share his thoughts on the movie. He praised the performances of Franco and Brie, calling them “great” and “brave.” King said the film works because it makes you care about the characters, which he thinks is what good horror needs to do. He wrote, “Dave Franco and Alison Brie are great–and brave–in TOGETHER. Horror movies work when you care about the people. This one works.”

King’s positive review is a big deal and highlights why Together is standing out among horror films this year.
