28th 'Detective Conan' Reveals New Visual and Trailer Ahead of Premiere

The team behind ‘Detective Conan’ has just dropped some exciting news for us fans of the pint-sized detective. Their 28th film, titled ‘Detective Conan: One-Eyed Flashback,’ is gearing up for its big premiere in Japan on April 18, 2025. To get us pumped, they’ve released a brand-new trailer and a striking visual that’s got everyone talking.

This time, the story takes us to the snowy peaks of Nagano Prefecture, a chilly and thrilling backdrop for Conan’s latest adventure. The trailer gives us a peek at Kogoro Mouri diving into a tough investigation, showing off his detective chops in a way we haven’t seen in a while. Alongside him is Yamato, a sharp-eyed inspector from Nagano with a scarred left eye that hints at a rough past.

Kogoro’s return to the spotlight feels special since he hasn’t had a major role in a ‘Detective Conan’ movie since way back in 2005 with ‘Detective Conan: Strategy Above the Depths.’ We’re also meeting Taka’aki and Yui, two characters tied to Nagano, who look set to shake things up in this snowy tale. The trailer keeps the plot under wraps but teases enough danger and intrigue to keep us hooked.

Steering this film is Katsuya Shigehara, who’s stepping up as director after working as unit director on ‘Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine.’ The script comes from Takeharu Sakurai, a familiar name who’s penned several Conan films before. Together, they’re crafting what promises to be a gripping addition to the series, which has been a staple since the manga kicked off in 1994 under Gosho Aoyama’s watchful eye.

The ‘Detective Conan’ franchise, also known as ‘Case Closed’ in some places, has grown massive over the years. With over 1000 TV episodes since 1996 and 27 movies already in the bag, it’s a powerhouse in the anime world. The last film, ‘Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram,’ smashed records in 2024, raking in over 15 billion yen and becoming the top-grossing Japanese movie of the year. That kind of success sets a high bar, and I can’t wait to see if ‘One-Eyed Flashback’ keeps the streak alive.

What’s cool about this reveal is how it blends fresh faces with old favorites. Yamato’s one-eyed mystery and Kogoro’s big comeback feel like a perfect mix of new twists and nostalgia. Plus, Conan on a snowboard? That’s just begging for some wild chase scenes down those icy slopes. Mark your calendars for April 18, because this is one case we won’t want to miss.
