’90s Classic Hit Goes Viral Again — The Internet Can’t Get Enough of ‘Beez in the Trap’
TikTok has done it again, turning two songs that couldn’t be more different into the platform’s latest viral obsession. This time, Nicki Minaj’s 2012 track “Beez in the Trap” has collided with 4 Non Blondes’ 1993 anthem “What’s Up?” to create a remix that’s taking over feeds everywhere.
The unlikely combo was first mixed by TikTok creator @dj.auxlord, who is known for blending songs that seem like they should never go together. The mashup was uploaded in August 2025 but didn’t take off until a couple of months later. By October, it had exploded, now, more than 700,000 videos use the sound.

The format is simple but catchy. Two people stand back-to-back as the camera moves between them. One lip-syncs Linda Perry’s emotional “Hey-yeah-yeah” from “What’s Up?” with dramatic flair.
Then, the camera flips to the other person, who calmly drops Minaj’s “Beez in the trap, bee-beez in the trap.” The sharp contrast between heartfelt rock and cool rap is exactly what makes it so addictive.
Some creators have turned the trend into full-blown mini skits. One of the biggest viral hits came from @almayduh, who dressed up as Matilda characters Miss Trunchbull and Bruce Bogtrotter, complete with chocolate cake. That video alone earned over 107 million views and nearly 20 million likes.

As Halloween rolled around, the trend only got bigger. Friends and couples began using the sound to act out funny opposites, from movie duos like Fiona and Lord Farquaad to horror icons like Pennywise and Freddy Krueger.
Nicki Minaj herself has explained the meaning behind “Beez in the Trap.” In a 2012 interview on The Graham Norton Show, she said, “‘Beez’ just means, ‘I am always…’ That’s our slang way of saying, ‘I beez doing such-and-such.’ So it’s really like, ‘I am always in the trap.’ Now, the trap… relates to anywhere where you get your money.” She even joked with Norton, saying, “You in the trap right now, playboy.”
Both Minaj and 4 Non Blondes have noticed the remix’s success — and they’re all for it. The band posted on Instagram saying, “We can’t believe the love this trend is getting!” Linda Perry added a simple comment: “Crazy.”
Minaj joined in, too, posting her own TikTok using the viral sound and telling fans, “Barbz, show love to the ppl doing the trend. Love you. You’re cute. Or whatever.”
This mashup shows how TikTok keeps reshaping old hits and mixing genres in ways no one expects. It’s wild, funny, and somehow works perfectly, proving that the internet’s creativity never slows down.
