‘Hell’s Paradise’: Is Gabimaru a Tensen?
The recently-premiered anime adaptation of Hell’s Paradise has, indeed, become a big hit worldwide, and fans have, naturally, begun to ask questions about the series’ protagonist, Gabimaru, one of the series’ best characters. Naturally. Gabimaru is a truly intriguing character whose story and personality are such that they can easily intrigue fans, so we have decided to dedicate this whole article to him. We all know that Gabimaru has a very specific set of powers and abilities that make him quite powerful, almost inhuman in that fact; he was, in fact, so powerful that even Zhu Jin, one of the Tensen (the first one that Gabimaru faced), asked him whether he was human. So, could Gabimaru actually be a Tensen? We shall explore that theory in our article.
Gabimaru is not a Tensen. He is a regular human. Sure, he has some superhuman abilities due to the fact that the Iwagakure shinobi trained him, but he is still just a regular human, as was confirmed in the series. He could not even be a Tensen, even if he weren’t human, as there are only seven Tensen in the story and it is known that they were created through a very specific process by Rien on the Kotaku.
The rest of this article will focus on Gabimaru and his skills and abilities in the Hell’s Paradise series. Gabimaru was introduced and shown to be an exceptionally powerful character, so much, in fact, that many characters doubted his humanity in the series and are now wondering whether he could be a Tensen. This is why we have decided to compose this article and explain everything you need to know about his powers and abilities in the series and their nature. This article will contain some spoilers from the Hell’s Paradise manga, so be careful how you approach it.
Gabimaru is human, and, in fact, impossible for him to be a Tensen
Gabimaru is the protagonist of the Hell’s Paradise manga and anime. He was raised in a killing culture and is the strongest ninja in Iwagakure. Due to his lack of feeling, he is called “Gabimaru the Hollow,” which is actually a title and not his real name (he is, in fact, called Tsuki). He is in love with his wife, the village chief’s daughter, who treats him differently than other people. To live a regular life with his wife, he intended to sever all links with his community, but he was falsely accused and taken prisoner by his allies. His elemental attribute is Fire.
As Gabimaru went on the mission, we saw more of his powers. Sure, initially, we knew he refused to die, but we saw that he could do some amazing, inhuman feats while on Kotaku. He easily defeated the powerful Keiun, and together with Sagiri, he outwitted the monstrous Rokurōta, whom Sagiri eventually decapitated. But, the first true extent of his superhuman skills was seen during his battle against the Tensen Zhu Jin. He managed to injure the Tensen in its normal form, and it wasn’t until Zhu Jin activated their Kishikai Transformation that Gabimaru was on the brink of defeat. Mei ultimately saved him, but Zhu Jin wondered whether Gabimaru was human.
So, could he be a Tensen then? Let us see who the Tensen are. The Tensen were created a long time ago by Rien from a single Tao puppet of herself, although the truth was actually hidden from them for a long time; they were told that they had been created using Jofuku’s mystic Tao and Flower Tao. Gui Fa, one of the Tensen, didn’t learn the truth until years later. As the term is both a “species” identification and a title, there have been a total of eight Tensen, including Rien and the seven artificial people she made.
Due to their unique biologies, Tensen can be either male or female and can freely switch between the two at any time. Each Tensen chooses their “main” gender based on their individual tastes. They are biologically similar to humans overall. Despite the fact that they are truly plant-based organisms, they resemble humans in terms of their general morphology. They lack a heart in favor of a plant ovule, which also serves a significant protective function in their bodies.
As you can see, there is a specific process to creating the Tensen, and Gabimaru was not subjected to it. He had two biological parents whom the Iwagakure chief murdered, which was seen and confirmed, so we know that fact for sure. Also, the Tensen were created long ago, whereas Gabimaru is quite young, so there is no way he was one of Rien’s subjects.
Also, Gabimaru does not have the powers of a Tensen. Sure, his powers are superhuman, but he cannot change his gender, nor do the Kishikai Transformation as the Tensen can. His powers aren’t really similar to those of the Tensen, and there is absolutely no common point when the two are concerned. The only reason why people think that Gabimaru could be a Tensen is that he has superhuman powers and he was able to hold his ground against Zhu Jin in a fight, but these are all circumstantial evidence, and we can really confirm that Gabimaru is not a Tensen.
The true source of his powers is his natural human resilience and the complex training regime he was put through when he joined the Iwagakure shinobi. In that aspect, he managed to achieve everything by himself, and although he managed to augment his powers later on, the Kotaku, thanks to Mei and his Tao, he is still only a human, and there is absolutely no chance that he is a Tensen. This is something we can confirm with absolute certainty.
