‘Constellation’ is a psychological thriller television series created by Peter Harness for Apple TV+. The show revolves around an astronaut Jo, who following the catastrophic accident ISS miraculously returns home only to find that some details regarding her life don’t seem exactly the same as before. This sudden change and other unexplained phenomena can be attributed to the CAL experiment that was supposed to find evidence of the observer effect taking place. It’s quantum physics guys so you know the show will be filled with unknown and the mysterious, and most of all, extremely good quotes. Here are the eight best we picked from the first three episodes.

1.”The worst thing about up and out in space is that it can be very, very lonely”

This quote was spoken by Jo over a video of a pre-recorded bedtime story for her daughter Alice. I’ve never been to space but according to reports from people that have been there, feeling isolated is fairly common, even when you are surrounded by your own colleagues. There’s something called the break-off effect during which astronauts tend to feel physically and emotionally detached and isolated from Earth. It’s some scary stuff.

2.”Hello? Can anyone hear me? This is Station, I’m afraid of the dark.”

This quote was spoken by Jo while she was alone at ISS attempting to repair Soyuz II. After Jo started experiencing weird time holes, she realized these strange events are more likely to happen during the nighttime hours. This quote shows just how scared she was.

3. “The Science cannot trump the people Henry”

Spoken in episode 2 by Eryn, Henry’s assistant researcher. Over the course of the first three episodes, Henry insists that his device be returned to him by any means necessary. He often had to be reminded that science is worthless if it involves human collateral damage.

4. “I don’t get paid to use my godamm imagination.”

Spoken in episode 2 by Henry Caldera. Henry had an interview with some random news station regarding the incident that happened aboard ISS, and apparently because of the incident that happened during his space trip aboard Apollo 18 that left two men dead, the journalist thought it was appropriate to ask him what Jo and the rest of the crew might currently feel, being trapped in a well, death trap. Henry tried to scold her and let her know that she crossed the line, until he ultimately blew her off and realized that there’s no point in arguing with moral vultures.

5. “Even if I’m not here…I’m always with you and Daddy. I don’t think you understand how much I…I just wanted to be around and see you grow up and go to high school, and have your first boyfriend and…then go out dancing with you when you get old and just…just be around to see you grow up. No matter what happens, my eyes are always on you. And my heart beats with you, baby. I love you so much, more than you can ever imagine.”

I don’t think this quote needs any explanation as it was said during a time when Jo thought that she would never see her daughter again. We’ve heard plenty of goodbye messages across the movies and shows of various genres, but they are always touching and always invoke the same sense of sadness and regret.

6. “Listen. Close your Eyes. When the names of those who have fallen asleep are remembered in prayers, what can be more beneficial for them than this? We who live believe that the dead are not deprived of existence, but live with god. As we pray for our brothers and sisters who with faith and hope are traveling so we pray for those who have departed from this world.”

This was spoken by Irena Lysenko at a time when the entirety of State Space Corporation ROSCOSMOS believed that Jo was dead. I’m not sure whether this is a quote from some religious book or some philosophical text, but I thought it was beautiful. You’re welcome to educate me in the comments!

7. “I walked on the moon and this is how the journey ends. Making me sit and debate that asshole.”

One more spoken by Henry during a convention where he was paid to debate some “science skeptic.” This quote just proves how once you’re done with being “useful” to society you get the most undignified of duties.

8. “Of course I feel worse. I don’t know what’s going to happen to me. I’m worried there won’t be any heaven or there won’t be any hell.”

In episode 3, we find out that Irina is dying as she has stage 4 lymphoma. Henry asks why she feels worse and this is why she answers. I think that Irina is the most afraid of nonexistence, forever.
