‘The Boys’ Season 4 premiered a few days ago with the first three episodes and despite lukewarm reception compared to prior seasons, it’s a decent enough opening for the penultimate season of the show.

Fans noticed that the show upped the social commentary and violence, but they also noticed the drastic physical transformation of Marvin T. Milk also known as Mother’s Milk in the show played by Laz Alonso.

Mother’s Milk was both in the comics and in the show known as one of the biggest characters in the group literally, and sporting a thick black beard. The actor’s transformation in the current season was so surprising that plenty of fans assumed he was recast.

In season 4, Alonso doesn’t have a beard and he appears to be much thinner. As soon as fans realized that it is the same actor, everyone jumped to the worst possible conclusion – that he was sick. Comparing this situation to the late Chadwick Boseman who was also seen visibly much thinner on set prior to his announcement that he is sick with colon cancer and his ultimate death due to the disease.

In Alonso’s case, luckily it’s not a deadly disease, the actor simply decided to work on himself in between seasons, and he happily and frequently documented his journey on his private social media accounts.

It appears that Alonso at some point took a DNA test from a company called BioSynergy that revolutionized the way he takes supplements and approaches workouts.

“What I loved about this DNA test is that it told me exactly what vitamins I needed, what supplements I needed, and what I didn’t need.” […]Anything that you put in your body that your body doesn’t need, your body is just gonna excrete, but it just puts your body under unnecessary stress, having to filter out stuff that you didn’t need in the first place. […] The DNA test was something that literally revolutionized the way that I look at supplementation and being healthy because I’m only putting in my body what my body is deficient in.

As you can see Alonso is not sick, and nothing terrible happened to him, he just became healthier, and carrying around extra weight is more often than not a sign of the opposite.
