Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Ubisoft Reveals Year 1 Roadmap With Big Update Coming Soon
Ubisoft has announced what’s coming next for Assassin’s Creed Shadows in its first year after launch. The game, which is now out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, will receive a mix of free and paid content. The first big update will arrive next week on May 6, bringing new story content and other features.
The first major update includes a free story quest called “The Works of Luis Frois.” This mission will give players a closer look at a real historical figure from Japan’s Sengoku period. Players can expect new abilities, characters, and world events through these “Story Drops” in future updates.

Ubisoft will keep improving the game with free updates. These include:
- New difficulty settings
- New gameplay modes
- New Game+
- Free quests
- Special collaborations
- Community-requested features
A new photo mode update will also bring new filters, stickers, character poses, facial expressions, and background music to help players take better screenshots.
Fans of smooth movement will be happy to hear that parkour is getting better. The first parkour update coming in May adds:
- Back-ejects for jumping upward
- Side-eject improvements
- A brand-new move called Vertical Ledge Jump, letting characters grab onto low ledges and awnings
Later this year, Ubisoft will release the game’s first expansion called Claws of Awaji. It will be free for anyone who pre-ordered the game. This new chapter continues the story of main characters Naoe and Yasuke, adds a new island to explore, and introduces new enemies, powers, and a Bo staff weapon for Naoe.
Ubisoft says it’s working hard to improve the game based on player feedback. Some updates already added include:
- Horse auto-follow
- Faster city movement
- Easier upgrades at the forge and shops
In June, another update will let players:
- Toggle headgear during cutscenes
- Turn off certain visual effects
- Adjust how the alarm system works in the open world for more challenge
More updates are planned throughout the year, including:
- New content in the Animus Hub
- A fully-featured New Game+
- A tougher difficulty mode for experienced players
Ubisoft says they’re also working on surprise updates and special collaborations, which will be revealed soon.
To stay updated, fans are encouraged to follow Ubisoft on social media and join the game’s official Discord server.
