Stardew Valley Creator Is Open to a Sequel, But Prefers Updates
Stardew Valley has become a beloved game among farming simulation fans, and its creator, Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone, is often asked about the possibility of a sequel. Recently, during an appearance on the TigerBelly podcast, Barone shared his thoughts on the idea.
He admitted that while he might eventually make a Stardew Valley 2, updating the existing game is much easier for now. Barone explained that the major systems in the game are already done, which makes adding new content simpler than starting from scratch.
“I might eventually make a Stardew Valley 2, to be honest. It’s just so much easier to just add more stuff to Stardew Valley than to make a whole new game from scratch. The major systems are already all done. That’s the stuff that’s not fun to do. When I make an update, it’s like, you know – ‘oh, throw in this, throw in that. Let’s add green rain,’” Barone said during the podcast.
Barone also touched on how he doesn’t want to be seen solely as the ‘Stardew Valley guy’ forever. This is one of the reasons he’s currently focused on developing his next game, Haunted Chocolatier.
Unlike Stardew Valley, this new project moves away from farming and instead puts players in charge of a chocolate shop, with plenty of other activities mixed in.
For now, it seems Barone is more interested in expanding Stardew Valley with updates while also working on something completely different. Fans can look forward to seeing more content in the game they love, while also keeping an eye on what Haunted Chocolatier will bring.
