Good News Borderlands Fans: ‘Borderlands 4’ Will Be Released at the Lower Price Than Previously Reported
Borderlands 4 is coming soon, and fans can already pre-order the game starting today. Gearbox Software and 2K officially announced that the next game in the popular looter-shooter series will be released on September 12, 2025.
It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Later this year, it’s also heading to Nintendo’s next console, the Switch 2.
Borderlands 4 comes in three versions. The basic one is called the Standard Edition and costs $69.99. Then there’s the Deluxe Edition for $99.99, which adds extra content like special gear, new vehicles, and DLC missions.
The most expensive is the Super Deluxe Edition at $129.99, which includes everything from the Deluxe version, plus two new Vault Hunters, new areas, and even more cosmetic items.
This price is slightly lower than the previous reported price that put the Standard Edition at $80.00. The rumored price caused backlash in the community, with Randy Pitchford offering his take on the situation.
Pitchford responded by saying the price wasn’t up to him. But he also shared his opinion on high game prices and said that true fans would still find a way to afford the game.
“If you’re a real fan, you’ll find a way to make it happen,” Pitchford wrote.
“My local game store had Starflight for Sega Genesis for $80 in 1991 when I was just out of high school working minimum wage at an ice cream parlor in Pismo Beach and I found a way to make it happen.”
We’re glad to see that the price is reasonable, ultimately.
David Ismailer, who’s the President of 2K, shared how excited he is about the game. “I’ve been blown away by how high the team at Gearbox have raised the bar for Borderlands 4,” he said. “The development team crafted a premium AAA adventure that evolves the series’ gameplay and storytelling in new ways, while delivering on the quintessential Borderlands looter-shooter experience fans know and love.”
In this new game, players will choose one of four new Vault Hunters. Each has special powers, and with billions of weapons available, there’s no shortage of ways to blast enemies. The story takes place on a new planet called Kairos, where players will face off against a villain known as the Timekeeper and his group called the Order. There are also new ways to get around the world, since this is said to be the biggest Borderlands setting yet.
Post-launch content is already being planned, with both free and paid extras coming after the game’s release. These will include new story missions, more places to visit, new enemies to fight, and even two extra Vault Hunters depending on which content pack you get. More info on that will be announced later.
People who pre-order any edition will get the Gilded Glory Pack, which includes a Vault Hunter skin, a weapon skin, and a skin for their ECHO-4 drone. This bonus is only free if you pre-order, but it will be available later to buy separately.
Borderlands 4 is rated M for Mature by the ESRB. If you buy it on Steam or the Epic Games Store, you’ll also be able to play it through NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW streaming service.
