Dave Bautista Joins the Sequel to Conor McGregor and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Action Hit
Dave Bautista is joining the cast of the upcoming sequel to Amazon MGM’s “Road House,” according to sources speaking with Nexus Point News. The movie is still under wraps, but Bautista is expected to play a former fighter, similar to Jake Gyllenhaal’s character, Dalton, in the first film.
This sequel will introduce mostly new characters, so it’s unlikely many actors from the original will return. Guy Ritchie, known for directing films like “Sherlock Holmes” and “The Gentlemen,” will be directing this new installment. The script is being written by Will Beall, who worked on movies like “Aquaman” and “Bad Boys: Ride or Die.”
Bautista is no stranger to action roles. After nearly 20 years as a WWE wrestler, he moved into acting and has appeared in popular movies like the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy, “Dune,” “Blade Runner 2049,” “Army of the Dead,” and “Glass Onion.”
The first “Road House” remake came out in 2024. Jake Gyllenhaal starred as an ex-UFC fighter who becomes a bouncer in the Florida Keys. The movie was directed by Doug Liman and featured a supporting cast including Conor McGregor, Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, and others. It premiered at the South by Southwest festival in March 2024 and was released on Prime Video shortly after.
Gyllenhaal had shown interest in returning for the sequel back in March 2024, and by May, the follow-up film was officially in the works. Amazon MGM’s Jennifer Salke said the project is moving forward. In April 2025, it was reported that Guy Ritchie was in talks to direct, and later that month, he was confirmed for the job.
The original remake received mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, 60% of critics gave it a positive score, with an average rating of 5.6 out of 10. The site’s summary said, “Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original’s emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.” Metacritic gave it a score of 57 out of 100, which means reviews were “mixed or average.”
It will be interesting to see how this new “Road House” movie turns out, especially with Bautista joining and Guy Ritchie directing. Bautista has a strong background in action films, and Ritchie’s style could bring a fresh take.
Personally, I’m curious to see how this sequel compares to the first one and if it can build on the original’s mixed but sometimes fun reputation. What do you think about Bautista joining the cast and the direction this sequel is taking? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
