Filming has officially finished on The Mummy, a new horror movie from director Lee Cronin. The film is set to hit theaters on April 17, 2026. Cronin, who made a big splash with Evil Dead Rise, is now taking on one of the most well-known monsters in film history. The project is being made by New Line Cinema, with Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster also producing.

Jack Reynor from Midsommar stars in the movie, along with Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, May Calamawy, and May Elghety. Natalie Grace is also in the cast. Cronin shared the filming update himself, posting a photo on Instagram that shows a wall covered in hieroglyphics, giving fans a small peek at the look of the film.

Right now, plot details are still a secret. But Cronin did share a little hint about what kind of movie this will be. Back in December, he said, “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before […] I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”

This version of The Mummy is written and directed by Cronin himself. It’s also the first Mummy movie not being released by Universal Pictures, with New Line handling distribution this time. Production began in March 2025 and was shot in Ireland and Spain, wrapping up in late June.

Cronin’s last film, Evil Dead Rise, came out in 2023 and was a big success, earning nearly $150 million worldwide. That movie helped launch a new era for the Evil Dead franchise, with original creator Sam Raimi now letting new directors create their own stand-alone stories.

The Mummy brings together some major players in the horror world. Jason Blum and James Wan are producing, along with Cronin’s own company, Doppelgängers. With this kind of team behind it, the movie is already getting attention from horror fans.
