Simu Liu and James Marsden Spotted Together Preparing for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
Marvel fans are gearing up for a major event with the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday. This film will bring together heroes from many parts of the Marvel universe, including the Avengers, Wakandans, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and the X-Men.
The story focuses on their fight against the villain Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., who makes a surprising return to the MCU in this new role.
Among the large cast, two stars gaining attention are Simu Liu and James Marsden. Simu Liu reprises his role as Shang-Chi, a skilled fighter who wields the powerful Ten Rings. James Marsden returns as Cyclops, the leader of the X-Men, known for his ability to shoot powerful optic blasts from his eyes. According to a recent Instagram story, the actors are hard at work preparing for their respective roles:

This marks an exciting moment, as it’s one of the first times characters from the X-Men will appear alongside the Avengers in the MCU.
Simu Liu has been a fan favorite since his introduction as Shang-Chi, and many are eager to see him back on screen, especially since the Shang-Chi sequel has been delayed with no clear release date.
James Marsden’s involvement has also sparked interest. After rumors about his role in last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t pan out, fans were happy to hear he would play Cyclops in this new Avengers film.
The movie was officially announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, where the Russo brothers’ return as directors and Downey’s casting as Doctor Doom caused a big stir. Fans had mixed feelings; some were thrilled to see Downey back, while others worried Marvel might be relying too much on familiar faces after some recent changes behind the scenes.
Filming began in April 2025 at Pinewood Studios in England, with additional scenes shot in Bahrain. Avengers: Doomsday is part of the MCU’s Phase Six and is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. A sequel titled Secret Wars is planned for December 17, 2027.
