Is Pattinson’s The Batman Part II Quietly Taking Over the DCU’s Brave and the Bold?
Robert Pattinson is officially returning as Batman. Director Matt Reeves, who made the first movie in 2022, recently posted a photo on X, and it’s creating a lot of buzz.
In the photo, Reeves is sitting with writer Mattson Tomlin, and between them is what looks like the final script for The Batman 2. Reeves didn’t drop any big announcement with the picture, but fans didn’t need one. The script being done is enough.

This post comes after a long wait. Ever since the first film came out, fans have been hoping for news about a sequel. Reeves’ take on Batman was darker and more grounded than what we’d seen before.
He made Gotham feel gritty, and Pattinson’s version of Bruce Wayne focused more on being a detective than a billionaire playboy. It really stood out, and fans have wanted more ever since.
Right after Reeves shared the photo, The Hollywood Reporter released a story confirming the script is finished. But what really caught people’s attention was a small line in the article: “But you can ask Gunn who’s writing The Brave and the Bold movie because we aren’t convinced there is one.” That one sentence has started a lot of speculation.

People have already been unsure if The Brave and the Bold is actually going to happen. Director Andy Muschietti was announced for the project, and it was supposed to be based on the comic book storyline where Batman finds out he has a son, Damian, with Talia al Ghul.
That storyline came from writer Grant Morrison and artist Andy Kubert. But since then, there hasn’t been much news. There’s a writer attached (allegedly), but no updates on casting, production, or anything else.
Meanwhile, The Batman 2 is clearly moving ahead. It was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022. Pattinson is back, Reeves is still directing, and Tomlin is back to help write. The film was originally titled The Batman – Part II, but that name hasn’t been used in a while.
The movie is now expected to start filming at the end of 2025, and it’s set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Other returning cast members include Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
The big question now is how all of this fits into the larger DC plan. Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, fans have been asking whether Pattinson’s Batman will be part of the main DC Universe or not. Gunn has already explained that Reeves’ movies are considered “Elseworlds,” which basically means they exist in their own universe, separate from everything else DC is doing.
Gunn also said that he’s open to telling all kinds of stories. About Reeves, he said, “When it’s somebody who’s important, like Matt Reeves… then you have to stand up and listen.” That kind of praise makes it clear Reeves has the space to do what he wants with his version of Gotham.
Some fans think it would be easier for Gunn to just fold Reeves’ Batman into the main DCU instead of creating a second Batman with The Brave and the Bold. But it doesn’t look like that’s happening. Reeves and Gunn have very different styles. Gunn likes fun, colorful superhero adventures. Reeves is all about grounded crime stories. Putting those two together would be messy.
So for now, both Batman projects still exist on paper. But one has a script, a director, a cast, and a release date. The other one doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Until Gunn gives a clear answer, fans will keep guessing. But it really looks like Pattinson’s Batman is leading the way while The Brave and the Bold fades further into the background.
