Disney Drops First Footage of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ Season 5 in Latest Sizzle Reel
“Only Murders in the Building” is almost back for its fifth season, and fans can’t wait to see what kind of mystery the trio takes on next. Charles, Oliver, and Mabel, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez, are ready to dig into another strange case when the show returns to Hulu.
Disney just released a new sizzle reel that gave fans a quick first look at the upcoming season. In the short clip, we see Mabel standing at what looks like a funeral. She says, “We’re all going to hell.” It’s a dark and funny moment, and it fits the show’s usual tone, but it doesn’t give much away. None of the new cast members appear in the footage, but more previews should be coming soon.
Filming for Season 5 wrapped up in June 2025, and the new episodes are expected to arrive in August, although Hulu hasn’t confirmed an exact date yet. The story will likely pick up right after the shocking ending of Season 4, which showed the body of Lester, the Arconia’s longtime doorman, floating in the courtyard fountain. Now, the main trio is back in New York and trying to figure out who killed him and why.
Fans can also expect to see some familiar faces return. Steve Martin, Selena Gomez, and Martin Short are all back, and Meryl Streep is returning as Loretta, who is now married to Oliver. Other returning cast members include Michael Cyril Creighton and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
In a story from The Wrap, showrunner Dan Fogelman teased that more guest stars will be revealed soon. “We can expect more big guest stars that’ll probably be announced sooner rather than later,” he said. Last season featured stars like Melissa McCarthy, Eugene Levy, and Kumail Nanjiani, so Season 5 is likely to keep that trend going.
Some new names have already been announced. Deadline reported that Keegan-Michael Key will have a recurring role, but no details have been shared yet. Variety revealed that Christoph Waltz is also joining the cast, and Deadline confirmed that Renée Zellweger is part of the lineup too.
Their characters are still being kept secret. Beanie Feldstein and Logan Lerman have also been spotted, and Jermaine Fowler has been confirmed as well.
While there’s still a lot we don’t know, the small preview has already started to build excitement. With the premiere getting closer, fans should expect more updates, trailers, and announcements from Hulu in the coming weeks.
