Marvel fans just got a glimpse of what could’ve been one of the coolest characters in Captain America: Brave New World, and she didn’t even make it into the final cut. New concept art from Marvel Studios’ The Art of the Movie book has revealed a female villain who was originally set to appear in the film, and her look was nothing short of incredible.

The character was supposed to be played by Alita: Battle Angel star Rosa Salazar. She was tied to the Serpent Society, a comic book group that Marvel has been trying to bring into the MCU for years.

While this villain didn’t make it to the screen, she actually appeared in some early merchandise, rocking pink hair and a comic-accurate suit. Fans might have even spotted her on toy packaging before realizing she’d been cut from the movie.

The book shows off several costume designs for her. One look had her in a dark, sleek bodysuit, something tactical, but still creative. Other designs leaned into her connection with the Serpent Society, adding reptile-style masks, snake-inspired tattoos, and high-tech gear.

Marvel Studios art director Michael Uwandi worked on some wild ideas. In one version, her helmet had tentacle-like wires meant to echo the Gorgon from Greek mythology. There were also designs where tattoos formed a scaly mask across her face, making her look even more snake-like. Uwandi said these tattoos were more than just decoration — “some were meant to show wiring, as if they had a deeper function.”

Even the suit was based around the weapons she would use, techy daggers that influenced the look of her whole costume. And despite the modern upgrades, she kept her pink hair from the comics.

Salazar’s character wasn’t just meant to be a straight-up villain either. According to the book, she was more of an antagonist, with possible romantic tension between her and Sam Wilson’s Captain America. That storyline, however, didn’t survive the film’s many rewrites and reshoots. According to some rumors, the chemistry between Salazar and Mackie was nonexistent, and the test audiences noticed it.

Captain America: Brave New World had a tough road during production. There were several changes behind the scenes, and Marvel had to cut a few things to tighten the story.

With big names like Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Tim Blake Nelson already taking center stage, there simply wasn’t room for more characters. In the end, the film focused on the clash between Sam Wilson’s Cap, President Ross, and the villain known as The Leader.

That said, the Serpent Society wasn’t completely left out. Giancarlo Esposito appears in the film as Sidewinder, the head of a group called Serpent. Whether Marvel plans to bring back the cut villain in another movie is still unknown. But judging by the concept art, it’s clear the artists had big dreams for her. Even though she didn’t make it to the screen, her designs prove she could still slither back into the MCU in the future.
