New Look at ‘The Naked Gun’ Movie Drops as Poster for Liam Neeson-Led Reboot Lands
Paramount Pictures has just released the new official poster for The Naked Gun, giving fans a new look at Liam Neeson stepping into the shoes of Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. The action-comedy film is coming to theaters on August 1, 2025.

This new movie is being called a legacy sequel, continuing the story from Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult, which came out way back in 1994. Now, over 30 years later, the franchise is back with a fresh lead and some new faces, but it’s still full of the same silly and chaotic energy the old films were known for.
Liam Neeson stars as Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the original detective made famous by Leslie Nielsen. The cast also includes Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, and Moses Jones. Wrestling fans might be surprised to see Cody Rhodes in the lineup, along with appearances by Liza Koshy, Busta Rhymes, and Michael Bisping.
According to Variety, Akiva Schaffer is directing the film and also helped write the script alongside Dan Gregor and Doug Mand. The movie is produced by Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins under their Fuzzy Door banner.
The road to get this movie made has been long. Back in 2013, Paramount was developing a reboot with Ed Helms, and the plan was to make him a new character named Frank Drebin, “no relation.” At one point, David Zucker, one of the original creators, was offered a role on the project but said no. He later told The Hollywood Reporter that he didn’t believe the reboot would match the comedy of the originals.
In 2021, Seth MacFarlane got involved and pushed for Liam Neeson to take the lead. Neeson confirmed this during interviews at the time, saying MacFarlane pitched the idea to him. “I was excited to try something different,” Neeson said. “They wanted to take it in a new direction but still keep the silly spirit.”
After more changes and rewrites, the movie was officially greenlit in 2022, with Schaffer taking over as director. In April 2024, Pamela Anderson joined the cast, followed by Paul Walter Hauser, who plays Captain Ed Hocken Jr., and others.
Filming started in May 2024 in Atlanta and wrapped in June. The working title during production was Law of Toughness. The release date is now set for August 1, 2025, after being pushed back from July 18.
Not everyone from the original team is happy, though. David Zucker recently told Deadline in April 2025 that he wasn’t asked to be involved and doesn’t plan on seeing the film. “They never reached out to me,” he said.
But with a new poster out and Neeson front and center, fans are finally getting a glimpse at what this wild reboot might look like. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to the franchise, The Naked Gun is getting ready to bring back the chaos, this time with a new Drebin in charge.
