David Corenswet Dropped F-B*** on Set at Rachel Brosnahan After She Caught Him Off Guard and Made Him Feel Hurt
Filming a superhero movie usually means action scenes, stunts, and serious moments, but for Superman stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, one unexpected moment turned into something no one saw coming.
In a new interview with People, Corenswet and Brosnahan talked about what it was like working together on James Gunn’s Superman. When asked if they ever surprised each other during filming, Brosnahan had nothing but praise for her co-star. “He’s a really fearless actor,” she said. “He was playing with different sides of this character all the time.”
But Corenswet had a story to tell, and it caught everyone by surprise.
“She made me curse at her,” Corenswet admitted, laughing. “The way she delivered one particular line made me sort of involuntarily say, ‘Oh f**k you,’ which I think was a shock to all of us. She got me. She caught me off guard and made me feel really hurt in that moment. And so I, in character, shot back at her.”
The scene that triggered the unexpected outburst hasn’t been confirmed, but both actors had auditioned with a tense moment from the film where Lois Lane interviews Superman. That intense back-and-forth was already seen as a highlight of the movie by critics.
And Corenswet isn’t the only one who dropped an expletive on set.
In a recent GQ cover story, director James Gunn also shared that things could get pretty loose behind the scenes, especially when Corenswet started asking too many questions.
“Sometimes his questions are great, and I totally see where they make him better, and because they make him better, they make the movie better,” Gunn said. “But every once in a while, it’s just one question too many, and it’s like, ‘Oh, my God, just, David, stop, stop, for a minute.’”
Gunn wasn’t mad, though. In fact, he said that kind of honesty worked between them.
“The beautiful thing about me and David is that he knows that about himself and he knows where my limits are,” Gunn explained. “And when I say, ‘David, shut the f**k up,’ David totally gets it and does not take that personally.”
He added that Corenswet is different from other actors he’s worked with. “I’m used to being very sensitive with actors. You have to be by default,” he said. “But with David, he’s not that way. He’s not sensitive like that.”
David Corenswet plays Superman in the new film, while Rachel Brosnahan takes on the role of Lois Lane. Both have been praised for their performances and chemistry onscreen, and the movie is currently playing in theaters across the country, released by Warner Bros.
