Chris Hemsworth has dropped a hint that New Asgard might not show up in Avengers: Doomsday. While speaking to the Sunday Mail, the actor looked back fondly on his time filming in Scotland during earlier Marvel films and shared that the upcoming movie might not return there.

“Filming The Avengers in Scotland was a really cool experience. It doesn’t look like we are coming back for Doomsday. But I’d love to not only visit there again but to film and do more work in the country. The people are amazing,” he said.

Hemsworth, who has played Thor for over a decade, said he was especially taken by the Scottish Highlands and their dramatic scenery. He called it the perfect place for a battle scene and said he hopes to return for a future project.

“There is something majestic about the Highlands, I’d love to do another movie there one day. It’s just a place made for an iconic battle scene. The backdrop is just stunning,” he added.

Production for Avengers: Doomsday kicked off in March and is currently happening in Windsor Great Park near Pinewood Studios. There’s no sign of filming taking place in Scotland this time around.

New Asgard, which was introduced after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, became the new home for the surviving Asgardians in the Norwegian village of Tønsberg. Thor left New Asgard in the care of Valkyrie, who, as of The Marvels, is still its leader. But based on Hemsworth’s comments, it sounds like we won’t be seeing that location in the next Avengers movie.

The actor also reflected on what playing Thor has meant to him, saying, “I love the character, and being cast as Thor has opened up so many opportunities.”

Hemsworth first played the God of Thunder in 2011’s Thor, and since then, he’s starred in more than nine Marvel movies. Avengers: Endgame alone made over £2 billion and is still one of the highest-grossing films ever.

It’s clear Hemsworth has a soft spot for Scotland and for Thor, and while New Asgard might be sitting this one out, the actor seems eager to return to the Highlands in the future.
