Filming for Christopher Nolan’s next movie is in full swing, and fans just got their first real look at Matt Damon as Odysseus.

According to reports from the Moray Firth coast in Scotland, Damon was spotted wearing full armour on set, playing the famous Greek hero. He looked impressive, though no major story details were revealed from the photos. Tom Holland and Zendaya are also believed to be filming their scenes at the same location.

There’s a lot of excitement for this movie, but fans are still waiting to see the first teaser trailer. Right now, there’s no word on when it might show up in theaters.

Nolan’s new film, titled “The Odyssey,” is based on the classic Greek poem written by Homer. The story follows Odysseus on his long, dangerous journey home after the Trojan War as he tries to reunite with his wife, Penelope. Universal Pictures will release the movie, which is being made by Nolan’s own company, Syncopy.

Matt Damon is playing Odysseus himself. He’s joined by a huge cast that includes Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, among others. Theron will play Circe, a witch and goddess that Odysseus faces during his journey.

According to information from Universal, filming started in early 2025 and has been happening in different countries, including Greece, Italy, Scotland, Morocco, and Iceland. Nolan’s last film, “Oppenheimer,” was a massive success, and right after that, he started working on this new project.

The movie was officially announced in late 2024, with casting revealed shortly after.

This movie is set to be Nolan’s most expensive one yet, with a reported budget of around $250 million. It’s also the first big film to be shot entirely using IMAX film cameras, promising a huge and cinematic experience when it finally hits theaters.

In the movie, Odysseus will face many of the famous challenges from the original story, including battles with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and Circe. The film will end with his return to Ithaca and the reunion with Penelope.

For now, fans will need to be patient. “The Odyssey” is scheduled for release in theaters on July 17, 2026.
