A new trailer and poster for Disney’s Tron: Ares are here, giving fans a new look at Jared Leto as the main villain in the newest Tron film. This is the third movie in the Tron series, and it’s set to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.

Jared Leto plays Ares, a powerful AI program sent from the digital world into the real world on a risky mission. This will mark the first time people in the Tron world meet an AI in the flesh.

According to the official story summary from Disney, “‘Tron: Ares’ follows a highly sophisticated program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with AI beings.”

The movie is directed by Joachim Rønning, known for The Young Woman and the Sea. The script was written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. Jeff Bridges, who starred in the original 1982 Tron film, returns to the series.

The cast also includes Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Arturo Castro, Hasan Minhaj, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.

Director Rønning spoke to Empire Magazine and shared that he thinks of making Tron: Ares as “the Holy Grail of computer graphics.” He explained that the film’s digital world, called The Grid, plays a big role in the story.

The director wanted the movie to look different from regular sci-fi films. He said that many camera shots in Tron: Ares were made to look like they were filmed by a robot. In his words, “The concept was that a program is filming a program. So it’s shot by a robot.”

Steven Lisberger, who created the original Tron film, told Empire that Tron has always been about new technology.

He said, “Something comes out, and it’s too avant-garde at the time. And then the real world catches up with it.” He also explained that The Grid now feels like a symbol of how fast technology is moving in our world. He said, “We’ve integrated into it, and the speed of it is mind-boggling.”

Music for Tron: Ares is composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross from Nine Inch Nails. Disney released the soundtrack’s first single, called “As Alive As You Need Me To Be,” along with the trailer. The full soundtrack will be out on September 19 through Interscope Records.

Jared Leto is also producing the movie alongside Sean Bailey, Jeffrey Silver, Justin Springer, Emma Ludbrook, and Steven Lisberger. Russell Allen is the executive producer.

In the trailer, viewers get their first glimpse of Ares as he steps into the human world, with digital effects making every scene feel futuristic and intense.
