Billie Eilish Teams Up With James Cameron for Upcoming 3D Project
Billie Eilish surprised fans in Manchester by revealing that she’s working on a mysterious new project with legendary director James Cameron. The singer made the announcement during the first night of her sold-out concert at Co-Op Live Arena, telling the crowd that the project will involve 3D technology.
Speaking to her fans during the show, Billie said, “So you may have noticed that there are more cameras than usual in here. Basically, I can’t say much about it, but what I can say is that I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron, and it’s going to be in 3D.”
She continued, “Take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him. He’s in this audience somewhere, just saying. So don’t mind that, and also I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row.”
At the moment, not much is known about what the project actually is. There’s no word yet if her brother and longtime collaborator Finneas will be involved. Eilish didn’t explain if the project is a concert film, a documentary, or something entirely new, but fans are already speculating.
Billie’s previous film work includes the 2021 documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, directed by R.J. Cutler, as well as the animated concert movie Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles, which premiered on Disney+. Both of those films gave fans a closer look at her music and life, so her collaboration with Cameron might follow a similar path, but the fact that it’s in 3D suggests something more ambitious.
James Cameron, known for directing huge films like Titanic, Avatar, and the Terminator series, is no stranger to pushing boundaries with new technology. His upcoming movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is set to release later this year on December 19. That film reportedly has an even longer runtime than Avatar: The Way of Water, which already ran over three hours.
Cameron being involved in Billie’s project suggests that it could be something visually unique. He’s famous for his use of 3D and groundbreaking camera work, so fans are curious about how his style will mix with Eilish’s music and stage presence.
Billie Eilish is currently touring her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. The Manchester shows, which are part of that tour, are now confirmed to be involved in the mysterious project, making them extra special for fans who attended. With cameras filming every detail, those in the audience might end up being part of whatever Billie and Cameron are planning.
For now, Billie Eilish fans will have to wait for more details. But the combination of one of music’s biggest stars and one of Hollywood’s most famous directors has definitely sparked excitement.
