Spider-Man fans have a reason to celebrate. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is finally going back to basics, and you can take that to the bank since Kevin Feige himself has confirmed that Spider-Man’s next movie will bring him back to the streets of New York, dealing with more grounded threats instead of multiverse chaos.

Ever since No Way Home ended, fans have been hoping that Peter would return to smaller, more personal stories.

Over the past few years, a lot of rumors suggested otherwise. Leaks talked about huge villains like Knull or Hobgoblin, and some said the film might mix street-level action with a multiverse plot. There were even reports that Kingpin might show up. But now, most of those rumors can be ignored.

A few weeks ago, news broke that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher would appear in the movie. That led fans to believe the film would focus on street crime, and now Feige has confirmed that’s exactly what’s happening.

In a conversation with Collider during a Fantastic Four press event, Feige revealed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will shift Peter’s focus back to protecting New York. He’ll also be teaming up with Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher. According to Feige, this film will mark the start of what he calls a “proper Spider-Man” era in the MCU.

“I think there’s a promise at the end of No Way Home, that for as sad as it is that Peter is forgotten by everyone in his life, we are seeing for the first time in the Tom Holland Spider-Man stories him being a proper Spider-Man. Him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city, and dealing with — for lack of better terms — street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events.”

Feige explained that this street-level setting will give Spider-Man a chance to interact with characters he hasn’t crossed paths with before, including Punisher. He also reminded fans that Punisher originally debuted in a Spider-Man comic.

“So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover… I don’t want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he’s got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.”

The movie is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi. He joined the project officially in late 2024. Filming is expected to start in mid-2025. Sadie Sink has joined the cast, while Zendaya and Jacob Batalon will also return, though their roles in the story aren’t clear yet. As mentioned earlier, Jon Bernthal will return as The Punisher.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.
