Earlier reports from Deadline had already set high expectations for the film’s opening weekend. They predicted First Steps would make between $100 million and $110 million, with presales beating other Marvel movies like Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World.
However, when compared to the Superman movie, First Steps still has some catching up to do. Superman opened with $125 million and had presales about 20% higher than First Steps, according to Deadline.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps is a 2025 superhero movie based on the famous Marvel Comics team, the Fantastic Four. It is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
This film is the 37th in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and marks the second reboot of the Fantastic Four series. Directed by Matt Shakman, the screenplay was written by Josh Friedman, Eric Pearson, Jeff Kaplan, and Ian Springer.
The cast features Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the main team members. Julia Garner, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson also play key roles. The story takes place in a 1960s-inspired retro-futuristic world, where the Fantastic Four must fight against the planet-eating cosmic villain Galactus, played by Ineson.
The film had its world premiere at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles on July 21, 2025. It officially hits theaters across the United States on July 25, kicking off Phase Six of the MCU. Critics have generally given the movie positive reviews. A sequel is already in the works, promising more adventures for the team.
