Food Network’s Anne Burrell’s Devastating Cause of Death Revealed
Celebrity chef Anne Burrell has died at the age of 55, and the cause has now been confirmed. According to a statement shared with USA Today on July 24, the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner ruled her death a suicide.
Burrell was found dead on June 17. The medical examiner said she died from acute intoxication due to a mix of diphenhydramine (an antihistamine), ethanol (alcohol), cetirizine (another allergy medication), and amphetamine.
Anne Burrell became a familiar face to many thanks to her appearances on Food Network. She first showed up in 2005 on Iron Chef America, and from there, she became a regular. She later hosted her own series Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and became best known for her role on Worst Cooks in America.
On that show, she helped teach people who had no idea how to cook, working alongside celebrity chefs like Bobby Flay and Robert Irvine.
The Food Network shared a message about her passing, saying: “Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent , teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring. Our thoughts are with Anne’s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.”
Her family also released a statement: “Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend. Her smile lit up every room she entered. Anne’s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world.”
Burrell hosted Secrets of a Restaurant Chef for nine seasons between 2008 and 2012. The show earned her two Daytime Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host.
